⭐️ Bring Back V10s 1997 revisited: European GP at Jerez
Added 2024-12-05 00:01:01 +0000 UTC
Our look back at the 1997 season concludes with that year's epic finale, where title rivals Jacques Villeneuve and Michael Schumacher collided, and Mika Hakkinen came through to take the first race win of his F1 career on a day where Williams and his McLaren team came to an agreement over who should win the race.
In this extended episode, Glenn, Ben, Matt and Edd also discuss Villeneuve's run-in with Eddie Irvine during practice, the three-way tie for pole position, and Williams's clumsy handling of the early stages of the race while Schumacher's Ferrari shot off into the lead.
And if you're sad the 1997 Revisited series is over, fear not! We have one more special episode to come, and we'll be giving the same treatment to another classic F1 season next year!
imagine being a Coulthard fan (hard to imagine I know) and him being forced to gift Hakkinen 2 wins in a row.
it's never been more over DC Fans.

The context of the McLaren+ Williams alliance was that those teams [along with Tyrell] were in dispute over the next Concord agreement so were naturally collaborating more than at arguably any other point. Tom Bower's book on Bernie Ecclestone said this controversy was very useful as the public outrage over Schumacher meant he had to be punished but this gave them an argument in his favour as they didn't want to give him a race ban and take the most popular driver away from GP's, hence the 'disqualified from championship runner up' punishment which Nigel Roebuck accurately said was 'like coming down on Schumacher with a ton of feathers'.

Great series! It has to be a series with Damon driving otherwise Ben won't have much to say at the start

Really enjoyable look back at what was my first season being a casual F1 fan - have to say I'm (on this occasion) fully with Matt on his collusion rant (less so on the qualifying conspiracy).
I'd probably be happy with any V10 season chosen for the next series (though it'd be funny to hear how you'd make an entire series of 2002 or 2004 compulsory listening...!)

Thanks for this series, really enjoyed it and the constant Damon 5 words 😂 I vote for 1989 , I'm biased obvs to Benetton that season and equally Mansell at Ferrari and the McLaren fight

I secretly wanted an early season so Edd could finally go in detail about every Pre-Qualifying session and praising Larrousse every single time

Great episode, great series!
As for the next revisited, I'm going to be a contrarian and nominate 2003 instead (no chance of McWilliams collusion if they're both in the fight)

I third 1999. Imo, a better season than 1997.

Maybe one day we can talk for hours at a live show or on a marathon stream for charity, perhaps 😅

Not sure Ben could survive 99…

Great series, wish they were longer episodes, as I could listen to you guys all day, but do understand, the point of them being shorter. 👏🏼

Loved this series, fantastic work everyone! We took the afternoon off work for this finale, agree with Simon about 1999

I hope the next Revisited series is 93-99 - I worry about Ben if he's not going to talk Damon. I loved his five words.
I really enjoyed this series, thank you very much all.
