Ad-free F1 pod: Brad Pitt's F1 movie - How it's been filmed and why it matters

With F1 taking a breather before the final three races of the season, we thought we'd bring you something a little different for our latest episode: An update on the Brad Pitt-led movie F1, which is scheduled to hit cinemas next summer.

Edd Straw, Scott Mitchell-Malm and Valentin Khorounzhiy explain how it has been filmed (particularly over real-life F1 weekends), why director Joseph Kosinski's back catalogue provides hope for spectacular action sequences, and how the teams, drivers and media have enjoyed having Hollywood in the paddock.

They also discuss Lewis Hamilton's involvement, what to expect when it finally hits the screen, and why the release of the film will be such a significant moment for Formula 1.

"Some people seem to think that F1 is above this" - to be honest, I'm one of those people. There are twenty athletes, all of them among the best in their field. There are thousands of - highly skilled - people working for the teams, the suppliers, at the tracks, for the FIA... and for the media, like you guys, of course. And then some film crew gets to clown around among all of them to produce something that's fictional and probably aimed at a casual audience at best. F1 writes enough captivating real-life storylines by itself, which are well transported by knowledgeable experts like you. It's absolutely fair enough to say that does not appeal to all people, but isn't that all right? There are people who think football is the be all and end all, and there are those who couldn't care less. Why can't it be the same with F1?

There's definitely an Airplane-style parody movie in F1.

Safety comment aside, the opening line of the movie does play in line with red bull in 2017-2019 where their car was underpowered but could corner very well

Something something, spreadsheet, something something, unrealized dream of a movie podcast, something something? 🀣 EDD!

Everyone: No one can race in F1 at 60 Fernando Alonso: says who?

Simon Emms

Brad Pitt is 60, mates. Ridiculous. That he didn't put a younger person in the lead, will "pit" this movie for F1 fans.
