Ad-free F1 pod: Sparks fly on and off track in Austin

Edd Straw is joined by Mark Hughes and Ben Anderson to discuss an entertaining United States Grand Prix weekend in which title rivals Red Bull and McLaren did battle on-track and off. The guys discuss Ferrari's scintillating form, Max Verstappen coming out on top in his battle with Lando Norris, Mercedes' struggles, what's going on in the row over Red Bull's controversial front bib adjuster, and much more.

I’m honestly confused how Norris was given a penalty in this case but Max wasn’t for lap 63 in Austria, in what should have been a slam dunk penalty. As a fan, the lack of consistency is frustrating. As far as Max pushing Lando off to force the issue, while it’s impressive to see the level of mastery Max has over the current set of rules, I feel like it honestly takes a bit away from the joy and spirit of racing to see such an obvious loophole be exploited the way it has.

We hear multiple corner allowance rules. Half the time it's that the car ahead at the apex has the right to the racing line and full track width, and the other half it's that you must leave a car's width as long as a car is substantially alongside with its front axle past your rear. These seem mutually exclusive, so when does each apply? And if the former was correct in this case, why did Verstapppen not also fall afoul given he also missed the exit limits without even the excuse of avoiding action? Surely carrying more speed such that you miss the exit also constitutes gaining an advantage off track when it was done to prevent losing a position.

There's my commute home sorted.
