Maybe a couple of questions for the midweek pod: How can the FIA try to take the moral high ground over swearing yet they are also happy to race in countries with (putting it mildly) poor human rights records in the 21st century? Or if you guys don't want to touch that one with a ten foot pole (wouldn't blame you) second question: with Alpine going nowhere, Andretti being told to go away and Red Bull owning two teams, would the V10 era Max and Bernie show have sorted this all out the day before yesterday?

Scuderia Irish

Do you have the feeling that Norris title chances will have more to do with Ferrari and Mercedes taking points off Verstappen rather than the relative distance between McLaren and Verstappen?

Disc Infiltrator

The big one that stands out to me is Verstappen himself. The only real reason he didn’t end up as a Mercedes junior is because Red Bull could offer twice the availability in their number of seats. Ricciardo, Vettel, Gasly, Albon, and Kvyat all had apprenticeships at Red Bull’s second team. Some were prepared better than others, granted, and you could also make the case that Williams offered that for Mercedes. In recent years, however, every team has an academy, which is why Williams went with Colapinto over Schumacher. I guess my point is that it’s getting harder for every team to train their juniors in a different team. Every team except Red Bull. That’s one of the several unfair advantages I see playing out in this current arrangement.

Too_81indingly_Fast

Even though the relationship is very close you could say that about a lot of partnerships with engine manufacturers. For example, Mercedes gave Lotus a special engine setting in the 2015 Belgium GP so he could take points off Vettel in a Ferrari.

Andrew yzaguirre

Compared to other series, the F1 broadcast is unparalleled when it comes to stats, even the AWS stuff has gone from ridiculous to pretty interesting. What stats would you like to add to better understand what is going on in the race?

Esteban Rivera

Zak Brown has been a vocal critic of the relationship between Red Bull and VCARB. How will the fastest lap being taken by Ricciardo and VCARB at the end of the race elevate this issue again and should there be an investigation?

Justin Plummer

Do you think now that Red Bull have found the development path they went down aligns with what Sergio Perez was saying has saved his seat or does another P10 finish leave his future uncertain?

Max Spooner

I would ask what young drivers have been in a Red Bull associated car recently?

Jenos Idanian

I tend to watch Albons races closer than other drivers, is it fair to say he is one of the poorer starters on the grid? It always seems he loses places off the start.

Kevan Prendergast

I would also argue this might have been down to DR more than anything. Yuki wasn't going to get points either. DR might have just wanted to get one last hot lap in at the very end for memory's sake.

Jenos Idanian

Given how close Albon and Colapinto have been so far, do you think this is a sign of Colapintos great talent, or is Albon being "found out", in the sense that he has been quite flattered by bad teammates over the last few years, but he isn't actually outperforming the car as much as people think?

David Trippler

A lot of drivers waited very long to switch to the Hard tires this race and either were at risk or did end up getting severely undercut. While the hard tire didn't seem to feel great this race (from what we hard from the drivers in the cockpit), the pace difference between old mediums and fresh hards was noticeable after thre first people had pitted. So why did so many teams wait so long with their stop? Were they worried about tire performance, tire longevity or were they just praying for the expected Singapore Safety Car?

David Trippler

Since the summer break it seems like Mercedes have slipped back from near the front again to being either 3rd or 4th fastest. Do you think they have a true understanding of the car from their mid-season breakthrough (even if it's slower than they'd like), or have those early season doubts come back into play?

Steve D

It's good that we're seeing fewer people make huge safety car gains which maybe weren't deserved, but how have we had another race this year with no flags or safety cars. Yes, reliability is better, but is drivability reducing crashes, or are drivers just better than ever. It's becoming uncanny how few safety cars we're seeing this year and I'm curious as to why?

Hugo Holmes

I've seen an awful lot of this talk. It's not like they sacrificed Ricciardo's race for the fastest lap - he wasn't going to score any points anyway, so a symbolic win is fine.

Simon Emms

What are your thoughts on the collusion that lead to Daniel Ricciardo chasing fastest lap? Should McLaren feel honoured that Red Bull are so concerned over 1 point?

Michael Holden

How different would the race have been if Charles was on pole or p2. His pace on the medium and especially the hards was the only driver to be on a similar level as Lando and seeing the mistakes Lando made in free air could Charles have won the race? Also is there a real explanation on what happened to the tires in Q3?

Nevin Knowles

It’s clear that this was Ricardo’s last race. If you were Red Bull/RB and had a blank piece of paper, who would you put in the 4 seats?

Ben Harwood

Yes, it's strange. With the racing being closer this year than last, I'd expect that to increase the probability of collisions.

Simon Emms

Agreed!

Andrew Ferg

Was Danny Rics last F1 drive a fastest lap and driver of the day!!?

Andrew Ferg

Oscar’s quip about it in the cool down room perfectly highlighted how ridiculous the whole thing is.

Megan Steinfeld

My question as well, this is the second race this year where the change of a safety car was “statistically 100%,” I wonder if there is a car related reason we’re seeing fewer safety cars?

Megan Steinfeld

Yes. As soon as I sent that, there was KMag's puncture so I thought I'd jinxed it for a moment.

Simon Emms

In my opinion, today is at least further evidence of Red Bull having considerable influence over 4 cars in a race scenario instead of just 2 that all the other teams are relegated to. I get that Mateschitz saved Minardi from falling off the grid 2 decades ago, but F1 is in a far better place competitively and financially. Is it finally time for F1 to do something about this unfair advantage? No other team has 4 chances to steal fastest lap points from title rivals and train their young drivers.

Too_81indingly_Fast

The first time in a while we've had a lights-to-flag race at Marina Bay!

Alexander Law

Norris’ two dominant wins/performances this season have come in zandvoort and here at Singapore when Verstappen has finished second. Where are these performances when red bull are struggling and Verstappen is finishing 5th/6th?

Ben Saint

What, in your opinion, would the top four constructors and their drivers be focusing on now that we have quite a large gap to the next race at Austin, to maximise their performance at the remaining races (of which only 1 is a street circuit and the remaining 5 have their own characteristics.)

Alexander Law

I think Max maximised everything this weekend? Given the nature of the laps and just having 1 shot at it both were superb. If we are talking about getting something out of the car Hulkenberg's first lap deserves a special mention too

Thomas Knights

Is it in the interest of the sport that Red Bull Racing has effectively command over four cars, i.e., taking the fastest lap off of Norris by sending Riccardo out on softs at the very end?

Hell on Wheels

Was Max's lap on Saturday equivalent to a Senna at Monaco / Lewis at Singapore lap and could this be key to Max retaining his title?

Oscar Robledo

With lando converting a win from pole in significant style (albeit with some adventures), will this be the confidence boost to loft him into a championship headspace, and does Ed finally think lando is a championship challenger?

Jasper Pendlebury

Is this yet another weekend where the points swing between Norris and Verstappen should have been a lot larger but poor qualifying/races from Piastri/Ferrari enabled Max to minimise the damage?

Thomas Knights

Just get the sister team to do it

Thomas Knights

If Norris backs up Max to Piastri, would that be like a double edged sword, as it would give less points for Max but Piastri would be closer to Norris in the standings?

Rob O

Would it make sense for Red Bull to pit Perez from tenth to take away Norris' fastest lap? I believe the constructeurs is gone anyway.

Michael Bergmann

Did McClaren leave Piastri out too long? Looks like they definitely had the fastest car all weekend. Could be they left points on the table, opinions, please.

Adam Haigh

Loved Colapintos first corner move. What did you guys think? And is Albon feeling a wee bit threatened, hence his annoyance about the move?

Gavin Cameron @ the_loft_workshop

Why was Maclaren worried about Piastri losing a place to Hamilton by pitting? I thought once he has fresh tyres and obviously a quicker car, he could easily overtake Hamilton, especially with Hamilton's early stop.

Rob O

When you see a front nose cone camera on the car showing the front wing, you see that there is a separator piece allowing the wing to separate. If they cared about flexi wings, why not ban those devices or force them to flip the angle so that the stress on the wing squeezes those plates together?

Ethan Fish

Is there any underlying thought process for the VCARB strategy each weekend? It seems like they always send one driver out with an incoherent alternative strategy but now they have put both drivers onto softs, including Yuki after doing over 50% of the race on mediums. What are they attempting to do week in and week out?

Ian Carlin

We want drivers to be like James Hunt, until they are and then we go "ommmm, I'm telling on you"

Simon Emms

How would the running order have been determined if there had been another Q3 incident that prevented anyone from finishing a flying lap?

Rob Borkowski

I assumed that they thought he might be able to get ahead of Lando/Max. Same with Daniel. Of course, neither of these happened so seems to ruin their races after turn 1

Simon Emms

Why have there been so few safety cars this season? (I've sent this on lap 34, so imagine we'll now get 3 safety cars now)

Simon Emms

Why did Merc start Hamilton on softs?

Matt

The whole "stopping swearing over the radio" just seems odd. Why don't they just NOT broadcast those messages? Also, coming from Ben Sulayem, who is an EX racing driver, you'd think he'd know how it feels to be behind the wheel of a racing car!

Andrew Ferg

With Red Bull succesfully getting Mclaren's rear wing altered and now focusing on their front wing, are these political maneuvers going to give Max the final push for the title and possibly keep the team in the hunt for the constructors?

Μάριος Γαντζούδης

With Perez struggles and Daniel Ricciardos seemingly impending dropping. Is it likely that Red Bull could promote Tsunoda and then have two rookies in RB? This would show the Red Bull haven't lost it by going back to basics. Looking back they did this with Verstappen and Sainz.

Damon Needham

Why is F1 trying to remove all authenticity from its drivers? The most iconic moments in F1 come down to drivers being themselves and it’s being stripped away, censoring the drivers is another step towards turning the sport into a grey emotionless miasma. Elite sport is not all sunshine and rainbows!
