We want your Bring Back V10s questions!

The moment has finally arrived! We know you've all been waiting patiently (or impatiently in some cases!) for our call-out for questions for the members-only Ask us Anything episodes of Bring Back V10s.

So fire away! Get them in by Friday September 20, while Glenn puts together line-ups for what will inevitably be multiple episodes.

If you've already emailed in a question (to our bringbackv10s@ inbox) we probably already have it on our high-tech sheet. But feel free to post it here too, just tell us if it's already been mailed in 🫡

We want your Bring Back V10s questions!

How much did the Williams line-up of 2003 underperform with that car and how would either Raikkonen or Alonso have performed in that car?

Joel Jeffery

When Ferrari tested the V10 in the '95 412 T2 with Nicola Larini it was quicker than the V12. Since they saw improvements essentially immediately with a V10 that wouldn't have been anywhere near perfect, do you think they could have started their period of dominance had they switched to the V10 earlier than '96? And if so, how much earlier? New member, first time asking a question!

Micko

6) Definitely not, I tried listening to that album once and couldn't even finish it! 🫢

I've got a couple, and I hope these are acceptable for the podcast. 1). What is a personal hot take you have about someone or something in this era? And if okay to ask similarly, a hot take on a car or generation of regulations in the V10 era, whether it be one you thought looked fantastic or tragic or was a right or wrong step, whilst most thought on the contrary? I think the 1999 cars looked the best of any era, bar the 2010 cars. Excuse my poor wording on that last bit. 2). What is the biggest butterfly effect you can think of in the V10 era? 3). Which driver is the best 'best of the rest' driver from the era? My pick is Fisichella, someone with high peaks with equally low lows, and it's a shame he never fully flourished in high-up teams. However in a midfield car he was sensational, and I'd like to hear your choices.

Andrew Ramsden

Are 3.0 v10s your favourite engines in f1? If so, which one? If not… what f1 engine would you say is your favourite?

Mike Fletcher

I was wondering, was there any other engine projects being planned in the mid to late 1990s that were not realised (manufacturer or privateer)? I remember something about Lola wanting to build their own engine, but were there any other privateer/manufacturer enginer projects being considered before return of Honda and the arrival of BMW and Toyota?

Alexander Law

What was the motivation behind the infamous tyre stacks on the chicanes at Monza in 1996? I don't remember chicane cutting being a massive issue there because of the big kerbs, and besides didn't it create an unnecessary safety risk? As well as putting pay to Hill wrapping up the 1996 championship early?

Liam Spires

What was your favourite steering wheel of the V10 era? McLaren banana shape wheel always looked good.

Henry Langdon

Which retirement disappointed you the most in the V10 era? For me it would be Rubens Barrichello at Brazil 2003, after 9 years in a row of retirements there you could see how much it hurt him. Was the 2002 British Grand Prix one of Montoya's better drives that has been forgotten. With Michelin not having a usable intermediate tyre he made the best of it and finished a lap ahead of the next Michelin runner.

Thomas Knights

What, in your opinion, is the most over and under rated seasons of the V10 era?

Daniel Ingleton

Which Indycar to F1 driver most realised his potential in F1 and which one undelivered the most. I was a massive Juan Pablo Montoya fan from the second I saw him overtake on the grass in the rain on the first straight in Hockenheim but I feel that he wasn’t able to deliver on his talent in f1 overall.

Andy

Three questions: 1. For Gary Anderson, of all the drivers Jordan tested during the V10 era, who do you wish had driven for the team in a race that never did? 2. Which driver made the biggest impact as a stand-in during the V10 era? 3. (One for Edd) Why was the Life F1 team such a miserable failure? And why is it not looked back on as fondly as Andrea Moda seems to be?

Tom Miller

If Johnny Herbert didn't have his horrendous accident would he have kept Schumacher out of the Benetton seat and won the 94 and 95 WCs? Ok get back off the floor it could of happened. Herbert had tested for Benetton and lotus and wiped the floor with piquet and boutsen (I think 🤔) he takes his seat at Benetton in 89 after winning the F3000 title ( the ejr Reynard was on fire at end of 88) he takes over from nannini as no 1 and briatore knows he's the man to back, so there's no need for Schumacher. Go on humour me ........ Please 🙏

Robin M

Senna and Schumacher were drivers who didn’t give their opponents an inch in wheel-to-wheel combat. If Ayrton hadn’t been tragically killed in Imola, do you think a Senna v Schumacher rivalry would have had all the ingredients to eclipse Hamilton v Verstappen or even Senna v Prost in terms of intensity and spitefulness? Were we robbed of an epic battle beyond imagination?

Several questions actually, I'd be happy to see one of them make it! 1. I recently read that Indonesia's Sentul circuit was on the provisional calendar for 1996, before apparently being dropped because of it's short and tight layout. Do you have any more details to the story - surely, those issues must've been known before the provisional calendar was released? 2. Other than Sentul and Autopolis/Japan in 1993, which you touched upon in the Donington 93 episode, I also seem to remember Zhuhai/China as a "nearly" GP venue in the 1990s. Are there any other tracks that came close to hosting a race during the V10 era but never did? 3. Which F1 track that wasn't used after 1988 would you have liked to see used during the V10 era (assuming the necessary upgrades to safety measures and facilities were made)?

Jan Alexander

I maintain that Diniz is the best pay driver of the V10 era

Simon Emms

I'd love to hear the group's memories on the Master's Karting events that used be run at Bercy, Paris and then whether you think there would ever be any appetite to do something like that again?

Joshua Milton

We talk about drivers able to drive certain cars: eg Vettel the high rake style late 00/10 cars, was Jacque Villeneuve simply suited to the wide track cars of the era? Look back at Champ car at the time, wide, low and all over the place. Love the pod, keep em coming

Simon

Don't know if it's been asked but what was the best sponsor of the v10 era thanks Hayden is the name btw

Snackeater 3412

IF! Nigel Mansell stayed with Williams in 1989, could he have won the 1990 World Championship? The FW13 was a very solid car and the Renault engine was strong. Looking back at the 1990 season, with the right driver, that could have taken it to McLaren! Side question, who ends up at Ferrari!?

Simon

I've got a few so I'd be happy with any being answered. 1) what are Edd's thoughts on Esteban Tuero? 2) How close was the Volvo/Yamaha engine deal to being finalized? 3) What bet did Gary lose that had him working briefly for Coloni? 4) Was Prost ever rumoured to be buying Larousse or was the equipe France fantasy a Ligier exclusive? 5) Was Diniz actually all that bad given the decent quality of teammates he had and the fact that he could often match them on pace? 6) Is accepterais-tu Glenn's ringtone?

Michael Maclean

How did the V10 powerplants get better through the era? What technologies or design decisions were made to increase the performance of both the engine and the whole car?

Jasper Pendlebury
