In the latest episode of F1 Book Club, exclusively for Race Members, host Edd Straw welcomes a giant of motorsport journalism, David Tremayne, to discuss his new book: Brawn BGP 001/02 – The autobiography of Jenson Button's World Championship winner, the 18th instalment in Porter Press's Great Cars series.
Just as the book covers the before, during, and after of Brawn GP and Button's 2009 title success, Straw and Tremayne (who also contributed to the previous tome covered on F1 Book Club, Derek Warwick: Never Look Back) reflect on their experiences from the time to delve into Brawn story, from the bombshell news of Honda's F1 exit, to the first realisations that Brawn's testing pace was real, and Button's triumphant, title-winning moment at Interlagos through to the team's sale to Mercedes.
Tremayne explains how the key figures in this underdog story - which, in his words, would be wrong to characterise as a fairytale given the "bloody hard work" that went into saving Brawn - informed the book, while its race-by-race review also recounts so many of the forgotten (and previously unwritten) details that made the 2009 season such a fascinating one.
Brawn BGP 001/02 - the autobiography of Jenson Button's World Championship winner is published by Porter Press and is available from all good booksellers.
