What's cooking at the moment

Hey gang!

Filmed another breakdown today, so at the moment coming up we have:

- Sabrina Carpenter Espresso deep dive

- Die With a Smile deep dive

- Welcome to the black parade deep dive

- Olivia Rodrigo Vampire deep dive

- New song quiz videos with guests

- "It was worth it" original song (However the mastering engineer's house burnt down in the LA fires so we might have to wait for a bit 😞)

- "Stopping By" original song (Currently working on the production)

- Secret band project songs (We have 3 songs in good shape)

Please post your suggestions on deep dive videos in the comments and I'll make a poll later!! Would love to be able to announce that people can vote for their fav songs for breakdowns on patreon :)

Here's some I just thought of: Sabrina Carpenter's Taste, Olivia Rodrigo's Good 4 U, Panic! at the Disco's High Hopes, Goo Goo Doll's Here is Gone, Morgan Wallen's Chasin' You, Taylor Swift's Red, Roomie's 42. I think 42 would be interesting because the meaning of the number 42. Think about it🙂

Does the video title of "What makes Die With A Smile" considered as a deep dive video? Would I be able to suggest my video ideas or do I do it on thru one here on this post?

CK DeP

Joel/Roooomie.. Will there be any singing videos in 2025? I'm guessing there'll be music videos once "Stopping By" & "It Was Worth It" are all good to go?

Joel, what about doing a deep dive into the Connor Price song “I Need Help”?! Or just a commentary video about it?! 🙏🏻 I’m curious to hear your thoughts and opinions on him, and this song.

Melissa Rogers

I love all of these songs you listed, @Giovanna 😁.

Melissa Rogers

I’m honestly surprised that Joel hasn’t already done deep dives on: (anything by) ABBA, Brittney Spears, or the famous “Rick Roll”.

Melissa Rogers

Plus, Joel made a cover of this Avicii song when he was in Roomie and Friends. 😁

Melissa Rogers

I rethinked and looked through some of my faves.. Fireflies by Owl City. I just like the dreamy tunes of this song and I tend to listen from time to time. Adam Young did a breakdown and it's okay to skip this suggestion. (I mean if there's nothing much to add on.)

♠️ Aslyn Jobry ♠️

Oooh I'm lovin' the upcoming videos/projects..can't wait 😀 I would love to see a deep dive on The Killers 'Mr. Brightside' and why it's still popular today (was in the Aussie ARIA charts last year). It's upsetting watching the fires unfold on the news.. absolutely devastating...my heart goes out to all affected ❤️ Stay safe

Kellie Clark

Oh no I am so sorry to hear about your engineer’s home. Sending my thoughts and prayers to him and his family. For deep dives of songs, I mentioned some in the chat, but my list would be: Madness-Muse Knights of Cydonia-Muse Under Pressure-Queen/David Bowie Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me-Elton John Africa-Toto Also looking forward to hearing your new songs when they are ready!!

Miriam

Yes, this song is quite recent! Tbh I didn't know at first that he is the lead singer of Måneskin 😅 I stumbled across this song in a reel, and the vocals and the lyrics really stood out to me, so I had to check it out

Bua (mintteafortwo)

ooh audibly said “that’s so excitinggg!” like four times reading this post😅 but really like five new songs, quiz videos, and a breakdown of my favourite olivia song??🥰 my song breakdown choice would be billie’s chihiro, it’d be cool to breakdown the references to the movie, spirited away, in addition to the song itself! and so sorry about your engineers home too, that’s awful!🥺

michelle

I would love to get your perspective on Ren, especially on “Hi Ren.” It’s such a cool concept and the one take video is amazing

Mary Dostal

I knew I recognized Damiano's name... but I didn't know he had a solo career, that's pretty recent, right?

Giovanna Garbino

Hey! Sorry to hear about the engineer's place, it's heartbreaking. You have a lot of suggestions already, but here's mine: Panic at the Disco - Death of a Bachelor Whitney Houston - I wanna dance with somebody Billy Joel - Piano Man I'm loving this breakdown series, I hope you’re having fun too!

Giovanna Garbino

I'm sorry to hear about your mastering engineer friend and his family. It's hard to imagine what they're going through. My thoughts and prayers to them. I hope your other LA friends are okay. I'm just wowing at the list. Lol. Deep dives looking awesome, quizzes with your friends/guests are always fun and I'm getting more thrilled on all of your song progress. The secrecy surrounding your new band is killing me. Lol. I don't have good or interesting suggestions so I'll go along with the majority poll. You've been hardworking so please remember to take breaks in between. Thank you for this update, Joel~~💜

Some more music I like and would love to hear your thoughts (but of course if you and the folks are interested): Great Good Fine Ok, Danielle Bradbery — Appetite (as a hello to the “bites” from Olivia’s Vampire) Bilmuri, Knox — 2016 CAVALIERS (Ohio) (might be familiar to you since you said you listened to Knox last year) Childish Gambino — Lithonia (as something a bit more popular than the previous ones) Sade — The Sweetest Taboo (something from the 80s) L’impératrice, Maggie Rogers — Any Way Prince — I Feel For You (getting to know his music better in 2025 and I think I love him), though you’ll probably 💩 on the lyrics:)

N M

Hej Brother by Avicii - so innovative, aging like a good wine

Franceska

totally! he’s got so many great hidden gems too! songs like baby grand, i go to extremes, and ive loved these days are some of my faves!

➶︎vsauce➶︎

You are productivity man these days. Being in Sweden seems good for you. Very sorry about the family who lost their home. Breakdown song suggestions now I've had more time to think: - The Winner Takes it All - ABBA - Never Gonna Give You Up - Rick Astley - Castle on the Hill - Ed Sheeran - Lose Control - Teddy Swims (really appreciate his voice) - Too Sweet - Hozier - Toxic - Brittney Spears - Slow it Down - The Kid LAROI

Cas

Can you please do a deep dive on John Denver's Country Roads? I know it's different, but the song is iconic💖

Naomiskyyy

The secret band songs?! How exciting :) For deep dive videos, I suggest Damiano David's "Born With a Broken Heart". I'm not sure if there's anything particularly interesting from the music production aspects, but the vocal is strong in this one. It's also quite a departure genre-wise from Måneskin's usual sound, might be an interesting subject for a deep dive. Sorry to hear about your engineer friend. Hope he and his family are receiving the help and support they need during this hard time 🙏🏼

Bua (mintteafortwo)

Nice to meet other POTF fans 🙂 Yeah those songs are great too. Also All the Way/4U is sweet, it has one of my favorite build up moments in a song 😊 Have u seen the Alexander Theatre versions of their songs on YouTube? I love those versions, especially on Angel and Rebirth.

JustSomeJK

I'm sorry to hear about your engineer's situation, that's hard to deal with. Trying to come up with songs, maybe 'Sounds Like A Melody' by Alphaville? Another favourite of mine is '(Don't Fear) the Reaper' by Blue Öyster Cult. If I come up with more songs that people might recognise I'll let you know 🤣

Amanda-Leigh

I totally agree. M.J. brought groundbreaking music, cinematic music videos, electrifying performances, and had an iconic style and persona. It still amazes me when I think that his fame was so vast even people in remote areas with limited access to media still knew of him.

Ornela

I would absolutely second any deep dive into anything by Poets of The Fall, I'm partial to the songs 'Dreaming Wide Awake' and 'Dancing on Broken Glass' too 😊

Amanda-Leigh

Oh yeah!! “Uptown Girl” and “Piano Man” immediately come to mind!! Plus, like Joel has said before…they share a name. 😆😜😁😁

Melissa Rogers

Yeah, M.J. 😁. I like how he used to make mini movies with his music videos. Songs like “Black or White”, “Remember The Time”, “Keep It In The Closet”, etc. Or songs from his sister, Janet Jackson. Some of her songs from the late eighties and throughout the nineties are still some of my favorites. She has a soft, sensual, and beautiful tone to her voice in that era that I love listening to. Also some great “girl power” type songs.

Melissa Rogers

so sorry to hear that about your engineer, :( thoughts and prayers to him and his family. it would be nice to see a video on billy joel!

➶︎vsauce➶︎

Rubbing my hands seeing how tasty everything on the menu is! It was hard to pick from my treasures something, that might be interesting to a wider range of people than just weirdos like me. And it won’t hurt much, if you don’t choose it or declare, that it’s not as good as I think it is:) my suggestion would be: Lizzy McAlpine — reckless driving feat. Ben Kessler. Thank you. Have a productive rest of the week! P.S.: can’t imagine how tough it is to lose your house; hope he recovers quickly from that🙏

N M

Thoughts to your engineer and his family, that’s heartbreaking. Would love to hear thoughts on Myles Smith’s ‘Stargazing’. Not a lot of music impressed me last year but this has become one of my favorite songs. Sweet, simple lyrics but the chorus builds in a dynamic way. His tone is amazing as well.

Becky Lorion

I’d love to see a deep dive into the Wicked soundtrack! Positive thoughts and prayers to your masters engineer and family, that’s devastating :(

Alle Engdahl

Looking forward to the exciting new content and hoping the mastering engineer is doing well. A deep dive video I'd find fascinating would be on any top hit songs over the years, especially if it uncovers the factor that makes them so popular and beloved even after many years. If I could choose, perhaps one of Michael Jackson's iconic tracks would be a great pick!

Ornela

Any of Ed Sheeran’s songs. I know that in your “100 Songs That 80’s Kids Grew Up With” video, you said that NKOTB (New Kids On The Block) are/were cringe. But, have you heard any of their music from 2008 - present?! They came out with a new album last year called “Still Kids”…if you’d like to hear an ‘80’s boyband that are now in their 50’s. Who knows, you might still say that they’re cringe, or you may like them. Please at least give their adult era a listen. 🙏🏻

Melissa Rogers

Prayers for your masters engineers’ family… and everyone there. That’s horrible to hear.

Airyckah Lane

Yes!! Post Malone…any of his songs!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Melissa Rogers

Oh my goodness, hope your mastering engineer is okay!! So terrible. 😣 My best wishes to them. Good to see you’ve been hard at work though, hope you’re having as much fun as we are with the deep dives! I’m very biased as I love him but my suggestion would be more Bruno Mars. He’s got such an epic style and sooo many bangers. So I’d be interested to see you pick any of his songs apart :D

Rainbowz Grace

Joel Berghult

Hey, u are on fire 🙂 All kinds of cool stuff to look forward to 🙂! Can't wait to see all 4 of those deep dives that u mentioned! Sorry to hear about the mastering engineer's situation 😔 I hope rest of your friends and people u know in LA are ok and didn't loose their homes! I'm so excited about your new music, both your own songs and the band stuff 🎶🥰 I would love to hear what u think of Poets of the Fall's music, for example song Carnival of Rust (little scared too, 'cos u could find it total crap 😅), but I don't know if it would be smart for u to make a video of it, since it's not super famous band, might not get views 🤔 And people probably wouldn't vote for it anyways 😆 I think I would like to also hear deep dives of your favorite songs of Bruno Mars, The Valley, Band Camino, ABBA etc. Or songs that has drum beats that u really love. There has been many times that I have wondered what would u think of some song that I'm listening. Those were the suggestions, that came to my mind at the moment 🙂 I might add something later if I come up with something 🙂

JustSomeJK

OMG I hope your engineer will be okay, the fires are awful, I hope all your friends in LA are coping.. I'm excited for all the deep dives because they are all in my playlists - yes MCR have a special emo place in my heart and on Spotify! The Taylor Swift one worked so well with you getting her directors cut style narrative, if you can get them on other songs it would be great. Maybe Post Malone new "country" era is worth looking at since country rock/pop is becoming more worldwide than the American market??

Clair (Teampanda)

I’m really looking forward to seeing the final projects on your list, once you’ve posted them!! 😁😁

Melissa Rogers

Old songs, new songs, or just from any decade/era?!
