"The AI Music Situation is Insane" Enjoy guys! I researched this a lot

And don't you dare stop singing and writing songs! I want *your* songs, not some computer program's. It totally matters to me whose heart and soul goes into the music.

Valerie Tisdel

I am a musician, and I may be naive but I don't think AI will ever be able to "create" on the level of the greatest performers. Sure, the more formulaic stuff can be copied, and so much music is already very derivative, but there is something really plugged into whatever spring of genius that the greatest ones have. Pavarotti, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Santana. You know after the first couple notes who that is, even when it's a new song.

I’m not worried about it too much, just wish/hope it will find its place more as a tool or idea generator rather than ai being the singer or song writer. Right now, I’m listening to one my favorite songs and AI will never compare, can’t be as creative or tell a human experience- even the clean sounding things- feel- just that- clean and generic. And even if I do find an AI song I might connect with later, it’s still derivative- it’s mimicking artists. Plus many people care about the artist too, Ariana and Taylor aren’t big just because of their music, it’s their personal stories, styles, concerts, fandoms, merch etc - all the connections to a person, that AI would lack. I feel like people like it as a gimmick or to help make work easier, but if we want songs about experiences and emotions- I don’t think people will find it in AI as much or look for it there… when they can listen to you & other real artists. -sad when you have to mean “real” both literally and figuratively lol. Very interesting video, you kept my attention & interest, even tho I’m sick of the topic- so good work! lol

Very interesting! Simply put, I have to agree that it is exciting and scary at the same time. We're building our lives to be as "off grid" as possible, with the goal of being completely self-sufficient in about 5 more years. The world of tech is a bit TOO scary for my family right now. I can't imagine the uncertainty and insecurities many people are facing with the rapid advancement of tech and AI. I'm lucky to be in a field that can't be totally replaced (nursing) but my husband (aerospace engineer) is having to work hard to stay ahead of any AI that can take over things like audits and procedure writing.

Thanks for this informative video!! I really didn't know much about AI technology until this video. I really enjoy music for the emotions that the singer evokes in their lyrics. I would be very sad if AI replaces human singers/ musicians. So much to think about on this topic.

Hope you’re having a good day today, Naomi ☺️

This is so confusing, I don’t know how to feel about it… I am usually very exited about evolution and tech but somehow this feels wrong? For me music is supposed to be based on life and emotions, a way for an artist to express themselves and for us to relate and feel the emotions together ! Like for example on a sad song, I really appreciate when you can hear the pain of a singer in the way their voice breaks, Demi Lovato does this so well! I don’t know if AI would ever be able to recreate emotions that feel so real. I don’t know what AI will bring for the future but I hope we will still have music that comes from real emotions and experiences. Of course we can also have light fun AI generated music to put on while driving or something but we also need the meaningful music coming from a human, one shouldn’t replace the other.

Joel - if writing and creating music feeds your soul and there are many people who will enjoy it, there is no reason to stop doing it (you said your were considering that). As a business, it may not be a great plan but as with everything, I don't think AI will fully replace all songwriting and singing but it will definitely be part of it in the future. I think both of us would be sad if you never wrote or sang again.

Interesting video on a complicated topic. My take? Technology has been taking people's jobs since the industrial revolution. But this is the first time it has infringed on people's creativity on such a large scale. Scary for sure, but no amount of AI can replace live music- the pub on a Sunday afternoon, world famous acts playing sold out stadiums, even busking in the mall. Plus I don't think musicmakers will simply stop; most talk about "having" to make music. I'm not saying it won't have an impact, I'm just (perhaps naively) hopeful it'll be limited.

I don't know if most people wil care much? It. Seems aking music os pretty elite. Mmost of us will never have the opportunity to even learn an instrument. It's a shame but. It's hard to care 🤷🏻‍♀️

Didn't know so selfish was about an Ex partner 🤔

I'm not working in the music industry, but this topic is somewhat relatable in my field of work. So, lately I've been having existential crises. I’m currently working as a copywriter and I can certainly feel that people in my work field are slowly being replaced by AI. I'm lucky enough to still have a considerably decent paying job amidst the rise of AI. Now, I don't hate AI. The technology itself is fascinating and I know there's a big change inevitably waiting to happen. I think what bothers me is the fact that people start to choose machines over fellow humans. For example in my work field, I always hear something like "we are incorporating AI in our work process, but we want human quality output..." So they don't want to invest in the human workforce, but expect "human" quality in the outcomes? It pains me and I can feel myself loosing passion in what I'm doing a little bit. I mean, what's the point? Are my works and effort still valuable? Cuz lately it doesn't feel that way sometimes.. Sorry for the heavy thoughts. The timing of this video just aligns so well with my current situation 🥲

I see movies being written about this stuff. So many plot lines… famous artist creates ai lyrics and music, passes it off as their own work, gets caught, loses fans, falls in love, is inspired to write own music, gets famous again, cut to singing with guitar ….end scene. 😆

Ai musicians versus Human musicians? My heart goes to human musicians! I understand the amount of time and input of technicalities to create songs and I think because of that I'll always appreciate and prefer human musicians. The problem I have with Ai is there's no clear boundaries of what is acceptable and comfortable in creating songs (and art) if anyone were to professionally market themselves as Ai musicians (and painters/creatives). Until there is clear, definite legislations on a worldwide basis, artistry to music making or other creative endeavours can significantly degrade to just sounds, words and images due to Ai's ease of use. I'll never look at and listen to music and art the same way as it traditionally used to be. Heavy reliance on Ai will also mean skills and knowledge that were once needed to learn and acquire are made redundant too. I wanted to think Ai is useful in cutting down difficult or repetitive tasks and help reduce time wastage but the way Ai was designed recently has become geared towards removing intrinsic human capabilities and that is somewhat worrisome to me.

Perfectly said and it's refreshing to know that I'm not the only one who prefers human musicians.

Working from home today and couldn't resist, had to watch this already 😅 Thanks for the early access! This was really interesting video and I like the more serious Roomie too. I haven't followed how the AI is progressing and dang it moves fast. This video was really good info package and loved hearing ur thoughts about it. I will write more about my thoughts about this subject later under the video. Good night and have a great Wednesday 🙂💙

Thanks Roomie for connecting the dots on all this fast-moving stuff. You do such a masterful job of synthesizing it all for us. And yeah… it leaves such an uneasy feeling. I do feel invested in human musicians. So much of what makes music so magical are the irregular aspects that move us on a sometimes-subconscious level. Like the way the grain of a voice might change on a word like ‘selfish,’ or the language quirks of artists expressing themselves through their unique lens. Even to a lesser extent, the mannerisms that players have when they play instruments. I think these quirks are the special sauce that forms part of the complete musical story. (Although holy shit, the instrumental stuff with this new tech is so, so scary.) With that said, for those of us who care about the humanness of our music, maybe we’re the last generations that ever will? Maybe a baby born today will get everything they musically need from churning out their own AI tunes 🥲

emy

Same! I feel like I’ll always prefer to listen to humans

emy

Miriam I totally agree with you!

Naomiskyyy

Wow, very interesting I'm very torn on how I feel about this tbh. This could be used in so many different ways and depending how it is used can blur the line on what is considered art and who is considered an artist for sure. I think though that solely human made music definitely is infused with feeling and energy that I don't think AI alone can replicate.

Super great informational video! It's crazy what AI is capable of. I know as an artist it worries me that graphic design will be another career that may see a steep decline in jobs as well. It's just crazy!

I just took a peek and saw Suno Ai! I've been trying out like 2 weeks ago and it's straightforward simple to use. I'll keep a look out for Udio Ai. Recently, I was looking at Fadr Ai but it's not free though (after trial period is over). The amount of new improved Ai technology is increasingly furious and fast. I'll rewatch whole vid during lunchtime! It's a topic worth pondering and discuss upon. Thanks for this thought-provoking video~~💜
