New Video: Has Money Ruined YouTube? (Musical Rants)

Paying patrons already saw this a while back, but now it's live (very slightly altered). I really love this video, it's unlikely to blow up short term since it's so different but I think it could find its audience over time. So happy with it!

New Video: Has Money Ruined YouTube? (Musical Rants)

Maybe it's that I don't feel like this video had a strong introduction? That may have made it work better for me. Something about it just made it feel like it was dragging in the first song and then the rest felt rushed. I like the topics he was talking about so it's not that I thought it was boring. I can't quite put my finger on what it is that was throwing me off but I think if I feel that way a casual viewer may feel that way as well? Whatever it is I'm sure it'll get better as time goes by that's how this stuff works.

I think having a solid intro or explanation is a necessity for the new or casual viewer— it’s what actually keeps them interested after clicking on the video. The longtime returning viewer or subscriber who is accustomed to the format and expecting the intro can just skip over the first 5 seconds? I mean, why should the burden of skipping a “boring” or repetitive part be on the creator? Not trying to pick a fight or anything, it’s an honest question 🙃

Good work! The final version seemed to flow well and I enjoyed the story telling, both the concept and delivery.

3 thumbnails & 3 title changes. Lol. The latest ones accurately depict the new format. What prop were you holding on for the money bag photoedit? The storytelling or song concept explanations overall doesn't feel lengthy to me. I love the chill & fun vibe. Your stick figure art are so endearing. I like that everyone get to participate in the voting system concurrently with the vid being premiered/posted. Past votes were from Twitch streams that you needed fast & you're clocking in the edit work faster too. I hope this new format's voting system is less frantic for you. Will you dig into your music vault & showcase song demos for future vids? New format seems good for them to eventually get polished. I wish to know the story behind the demos too. If you like... no pressure really. Lastly, where's the proposal ring? Let us seeee... 💍🤩

I love the video, it's so fun to watch, the concept, the format I love it all! Someone in the chat yesterday mentioned the lyrics not being very strong, I guess when you're doing mini songs about real life topics like this, the lyrics aren't gonna be very poetic? I do have one suggestion/idea though. Why don't you get one of those teleprompters to put behind your camera so it feels more like telling a story? Without checking your screen too much. Just a thought. Keep up the great work 🧡

Mona

I thought that was fine, many youtubers I watch introduce themselves, their situation and their concept at the beginning of every video, and people still watch them I guess?

Mona

I was at work but now im gonna watch it🤍

I don’t get the criticism against the intro, I think it is necessary to understand the meaning behind the songs! Plus I also love the storytelling, your analysis of the different subjects. I started following you because of your fun way of presenting a topic and your life, well that and because of the music. This is a great format, like the idea of voting even if it is a difficult decision 😊.

I loved the video a lot. The fact you enjoyed making it is obvious. The concept will always be that you want to make a full song out of a short version related to a story? I read the other comments about the first talking part being long (i don’t feel that way), and I wouldn’t like that to discourage you from doing those, because if you find a subject interesting the story and song will also be interesting. So I figured that maybe if you have more to say on a subject you don’t have to crowd other subjects around it, you could do a dedicated video with a little song at the end, but in this case the call to action about voting wouldn’t make sense, or it could be a y/n vote. This is just some of my thoughts, do things however it make sense to you , as you are the only expert in the Roomie Official channel 😜

Awesome video Joel

Stephanie Bruso

I love this too! Such a catchy way of explaining it

emy

Ok so I just rewatched the video. Because I was specifically watching to see how much was explaining the song vs format it doesn't seem as in the way. Somehow just watching for entertainment the first time it seemed more mixed together. I still think the first half feels a bit slow because it is only one topic then the other 2 seem rushed because of that. Again it's the first attempt. I do think future videos will flow better as you get a better handle of this format.

Lianne Conroy

Oh - sorry - he needs to do a short intro for sure!

Cas

Interesting. My impression was it was that the youtube talk was too long. I think I might be learning that the average viewer of my channel isn’t really that into youtube meta content. Will keep it broader going forward and potentially change the title of this one to something more obviously music-y

Joel Berghult

It’s like 3 sentences in a long video right? Why did you feel it was so in the way?

Joel Berghult

I’ll make some old style things too. I also want to experiment with other songwriting concepts, but this one feels the most fun to me as it has real subjects as well as songs. Not as interested in talking to much about the music making process, unless I do something super interesting

Joel Berghult

I love the video - was worth to wait. Great topics (personally I’m the 2 case - the gadgets lover 😂), funny animations and storytelling, and last but not least- the song, all 3 are my favourites 💙Also I love when Joel sings “I’m happy…” - this make me instantly happier. But voted for emo-Joel song - this one stole my heart from the very beginning… 💙

Franceska

Missed all the premier fun while I was at work. Just saw the finished version and it was great a little more polished up compared to the preview. I said it before but the new format is great! 😊

Becky Lorion

yeah, animations are 🔥😄

Franceska

Just finished watching the posted video, I really enjoyed it!! I also like the idea of calling them musical rants! I feel like that explains how the songs connect to the topics more. And I still vote for the last song! 🙂

Miriam

The flow is better in the final output than in the preview, I guess it’s growing on me 😊 the format itself is great and unusual and will only become more cemented in time once the teething issues sort themselves out. The animations make the stories for me, 10/10 😂

Jen 🦙

I was referring to the short intro to the overall video rather than the song stories.

Dorie

I think Joel will find out if it worked after a few days by seeing the time when people dropped out of the video. Although most of us here enjoy "more Joel" the average viewer might not appreciate the intro. Glad there are stats to determine that and help guide video creation.

Cas

I agree about the timeline, really nice addition.

JustSomeJK

I wouldn't mind even longer intro/sories for the songs, especially in combination with the drawings, as I replayed it many times anyway :) I loved that there was a timeline for each song, made it more 'neat'

Nina L

I do think this version flowed better than the preview version we saw. So as you do more videos you will figure out the best way to covey the point

Lianne Conroy

I really like this new format, I think it was good that there was some explanation of what it's about, since it's something that we haven't seen before. Unlike many, who said that the beginning was too long, I could have listened even longer about all three topics. Those were interesting! And all the art and music made it a real treat, enjoyed it a lot 🥰 Can't wait to see more of this type of content 🙂

JustSomeJK

I love this concept. As with anything new, it will only improve with time I expect. I think it will work well as a series and provides good fodder for shorts, etc. Do you have other types of videos you want to make or will you keep with this concept?

Cas

I think that's what everyone meant when saying the first section was too long. Explaining both the song concept and video concept at the same time bogged it down a bit.

Lianne Conroy

I actually liked the intro. It didn’t feel overly “explainy”.

Dorie

Explaining the video format seemed to get in the way of the songs. To me anyways. I think if you have to explain the concept fully in every video people that have seen it before will get bored with it. Like you can ask them to vote but shouldn't need to explain it all Everytime. Otherwise it's not a very good idea.

Lianne Conroy

would love to hear more about what you mean. Since new people will always see new videos, I'm always gonna have to explain what's goin on :P

Joel Berghult

This video was a bit awkward from having to explain the format concept. After this it should flow better.
