Hey Patrons (Existential Crisis Edition)

Comments

You say you do love writing, maybe ghostwrite some stuff? Like, go back to your basics. If writing is your comfort zone, maybe put your services on fiverr (or elsewhere) anonymously. So no one would judge you as Roomie , no one would expect something from you. Maybe you just need to remember your worth, without having thousands of people seeing/judging it ? There's no point in having thousands of people validating you, if you don't validate you in the first place. Anyway, I may be completely off the mark, but I'd rather write it down, in case you need to hear/read it. Take care

Q: Now, when you've been living in US for quite some time, was it worth to move from EU? Has this US journey met your exceptions?

Marzena Krawczyk

Q: Joel, has anyone ever felt like home to you? Because, that's what I feel with you.

Gayle

For some reason YouTube suggested video to me where Chad Smith was playing drums to a 30sec to Mars song he had never heard of before ( https://youtu.be/HMBRjo33cUE ) and that made me wonder... Q: When is the last time u have played actual drums (do u still have a drum set) and do u miss playing drums? U probably don't miss the backpains, but is there something that the drumbeats on different programs are lacking for u?

JustSomeJK

Q: Any plans in come to Australia. Have you ever been.

Andrea mills

Q: Do you have a favourite harmonisation? For example, in C Major, the use of the sixth degree major, A, to lead into the secondary dominant minor, Dm, or the use of A to modulate into D Major? 😊

Jen 🦙

So, I hadn't heard the NOTD song you mentioned. I admit I can see why you like it. It has a nice beat, the harmonization of voices that you lean to, on the lyrics as I understand them, ditto, and the crispness of the whole composition. Thank you for putting it out there, I really enjoyed listening to it.

Gayle

Thanks for answering my question!! Maybe you can try a few videos on your second channel , and see how they do. Some will succeed, some won't do as well. Do what makes you happy! Q: What is your favorite singing experiment video? Hope you have a great weekend!!

Thanks for being so open and honest about the ups and downs of being a YouTuber. When it comes to creative stuff, I think I can relate to the difficulties to start doing things. I don't know what ur fears and blockages are, but for me, if having too many ideas and not being sure if some of them are even doable, causes me to have blocks and I get scared that I will be disappointed with the end results if having high expectations about the outcome etc. Since I'm not in social media business, I'm probably not good at giving advice (not that u even asked for it 🤪), but I guess I would look at those whopping 400-500 pages of ideas and mark the ones that instantly makes me feel excited and happy and just choose one that u have the resources at the current moment and start making it. Clicks, views, likes etc. are important in ur line of work, but maybe if u try to forget about other people for a moment and just start by doing things that makes u happy and excited and I'm sure that comes through in ur videos too 🙂 And maybe try to distance yourself from the work sometimes by taking walks and staring to the distance, maybe that could help getting clarity on things and give u a boost 🙂 You have the skills, tools and personality to create great stuff, so maybe take that wise advice from Nike and just do it 😁 Easier said than done, I know, but you got this and you are enough! 🙂 U have our support, so just do you 🙂 That podcasty thing u made with Jack and Daniel was great, looking forward to the next one! 🙂 Thanks for answering my question 🙂 Sounds like LA is a tough place for introverts when it comes to socializing, but must be great to have so many options to see and do things when feeling like doing so 🙂 Sorry for this long rant and lame advice 😅 Have a nice weekend 🙂💙

Thank you for backtracking your thoughts and trying your best to answer my question. I'm sorry that was a tough cookie for you to bite on. I'll try make it up to you with simpler question. Q: How do you maintain vocal health? Any remedy tips for sore throat? It's normal to feel lost every now and then. What matters now is that you're taking proactive steps towards resilience and optimism. Quoting Vinh Quang Giang's advice about analysis paralysis: "Analysis paralysis is an obsession about making the best decision. And you don't want to make the wrong decision. No one can maximise life and make all the right decisions. There's no such thing. I tried accounting for 4 years. Wrong path. Clarity only comes from trial and error. A lot of people think more thinking creates more clarity... More thinking creates more thinking. More action creates more clarity. You're trying to see all 10 steps of the stairs. The only way to see step 2 is once you're on step 1. You're not going be able to see the whole staircase and you'll make a lot of errors and it's okay. Failure is the price of entry. Don't be afraid to fail." Take that first step and just go ahead create the video you want. Appreciate you're being real. Till then, please take care~~💜

Cheeky Q: who was your favourite Spice Girl? 😝 Also, pleeeaaaase try and switch your brain off every now and then before you implode xx

Hayley

I wish I could help Joel out, I hate seeing him look so overwhelmed. I think anyone who's self employed knows that feeling of dread, when suddenly you don't think you are moving in any direction and you don't know what to do for the best. He'll sort it out, hopefully not at the detriment of his poor tense shoulders and neck (I also hold my stress there, it hurts!) Maybe I should pay for a massage for him 😉

Clair (Teampanda)

A lot of truth and very good advice!! Both “K.I.S.S.”, and what @mg said (following her question)…good advice and good ideas to keep things consistent while he’s feeling uncertain and anxious and overwhelmed. 💙💛

Melissa Rogers

We've all been there, be kind to yourself.

Snoodle

Thank you for sharing what's on your mind with us, Joel. I'll be waiting in your second channel whenever you're ready to experiment with new contents and find your momentum. I gotcha. We got this 💪🏼🙂 P.S. I live in Thailand (yes, the land of Jiva) and totally understand how confusing a 14-hour time difference can be 😅

Bua (mintteafortwo)

Thank you for being honest and share with us how it’s going. I’m not going to sugarcoat and wish you to relax etc. I think you’re capable of moving from that dead stagnation point of not knowing/not wanting to start filming/posting videos (only in case if you really want to stay on youtube). Q: Brutal honesty or absolute insincerity ? Which one can you handle better?

Helga 🦊

Might sound a bit weird since you’re trying to get the process moving again but take a step back for a few days so you can get to know exactly what you’re comfortable with. That way, you’ll have more chance of being satisfied with the end result 😊 Also, friendly reminder, self validation is the most important validation. If you’re not happy with what’s going on, no amount of words from family, friends and comments are gonna change that. Focus on you and what truly makes you happy Joel, you know deep down that you’ve got this ❤️

Jen 🦙

Appreciate you being real, I can relate

Nina L

I feel you there 😔 Just let you process all that, calm down, and restart. Don't be too harsh on you. Refocus on what matters. Q : would you vlog, document ... your writting or song creation process more often ? I would be so interested.

Magalie Leplus

Hey! Try not to stress too much about what your next steps should be. Maybe just getting into the groove and momentum of putting videos out regularly will help you figure out what direction to take next? I’m sure whatever you decide to do will be great!! 🙂

Miriam

It's good that you write the ideas and plans down. Relax a little more, meditate. You are right on taking a break from AI. Putting too much on your plate, can complicate your organization skills. One thing at a time. You got this, and when you find joy in what you bring......it only spreads joy.

Gayle

Joel you need to be a bit easier on yourself! You've got out of the habit of putting out regular content so it will be overwhelming until you jump back in and get started again. O.K some of the backend stuff on the last two videos may hint to people not liking it compared to other videos and comments can hurt if they are discouraging but at least it shows people are watching the content! Music commentary on your channels always do well in terms of views and are a Roomie staple. People enjoy listening to your take on the latest music so don't think of them as a lesser video, they are actually quite good fillers. I know you'll figure this out but for now.....K.I.S.S and get the little wins out of the way!

Clair (Teampanda)

AI not being a good business move??? WHAT I can't believe it this is brand new information!!!

Mari

Q: Do you shop at Walmart? I’m asking cause I work there and want to know your opinion of Walmart? Sorry to hear to you’re so stressed out. I know you will figure it out

Stephanie Bruso

If your projects overwhelm you, break them down into smaller steps and think about which step is holding you back. Then you can seek help specifically for this task so that you can finally get back into action. I think this is one option that would quickly help you get out of this paralysis. But maybe I'm not the best for handing out advice unless I follow advice like this myself :p

Luna

NOTD are fun :). I agree with the advice Joel, or Nike advice lol, when you did some dailies they didn’t all have to be grand ideas. agree -just make things and even if they are random ideas, or not for everyone, at least it will keep you active and most of your videos are enjoyable to a wide audience. I’m so tired of AI tho lol but I still enjoyed your videos with it. everyone likes different types of videos you do and will keep rewatching their favs :). As far as being overwhelmed, I hope you feel like you get a good routine and momentum again. your planning and note apps sound overwhelming to me when ya mentioned them in the last updates, but maybe ya are making that all work! I had to get rid of apps for dieting or language learning, etc. because they make me more neurotic and more overwhelmed, so it has opposite effects for me. I just do some alarms now for reminders and outlook calendar for work. Best of luck, excited for more to come!

xtina 🖤

I agree, don't be afraid to experiment and do different videos that you think will be fun. Even if they don't get huge views, you know we'll be there to support it.

Lianne Conroy

Hey Joel, Just make some stuff, throw it against the wall on the second channel and see what sticks. You know your Patrons are behind you whatever you do. If you want to write music and you want some prompts just ask us. Maybe even write about your fear of putting yourself out there. Q: Why don't you make an appointment for your next haircut when you are at the salon? I believe that you tend to put off getting a haircut. Not that I don't like your hair but I know it bothers you when you don't look as spiffy as you think you should.

Cas

Q: do you enjoy doing the commentary videos? If you do keep doing them. But you have to react to the same things so often that it just seems like you're a little bit bored with it. I think the Instagram comment song video was really good. However 4 minute videos don't really work because either people want TikTok/short 30 second videos or longer 15 to 20 minute videos. That video didn't get huge views. But you could do something like that and then maybe explain a little bit of the process or how you came up with the lyrics or something to make the video a bit longer. That would be pretty fun.

Lianne Conroy

Hey Joel! Don't be afraid to take risks on different things. Do what you like. We will always be here with you. 🤍 No matter what. Q: What do you like most about a song? Lyrics or beat? Or it doesn't matter. Take care Joel.

Jess Haggstron

Totally forgot it was Thursday 😅 Q: you’ve had a lot of personal ups and downs that you’ve vaguely shared with us through the years… besides professional help, what have you found to help get you through your downs/lows the healthiest and fastest… especially if it feels very isolating?

Airyckah Lane

Q: do you like NF ....😁
