I share your tech overwhelm JK! I know some people enjoy the technology itself, but I’m more like ‘fuck, if I want to do the fun thing I guess I have to figure out how my goddamn computer works.’ ⛈️ Audacity is fun because you can play with it like a toy pretty much right away. Joel links to it in the course - it’s a free software. It kinda looks like an old school tape recorder and you can record stuff or import audio files from your computer. Then you use the menus at the top to manipulate the sounds. It’s really powerful but it’s also really user friendly. Definitely recommend playing with it if you have some time! For the cringing, I have no solutions. If anyone else has any advice I wanna know too! I just keep cringing 😂 and honestly, I would WAY rather listen to myself sing than talk. When I have to listen to myself talk I DIE ☠️ For Rick, I mostly just made him sing little bits of songs, 🎶Emy is a cool dude🎶 stuff like that

I don’t know if you will find this information to be useful or cursed 🤔 but the Easy GUI has a ‘record’ button so you can sing straight into your computer if you don’t have an audio file. It’s not as good but it’s still pretty good! Earlier I was getting Rick Astley’s voice to repeat after me (speaking of weirdos, I am definitely one 😂)

That’s really nice of you, and it’s a pleasure getting to see your face without the AI filters 😁 Based on the title I wasn’t expecting the video to be as entertaining as it was, and the song is so catchy. I noticed that recently you tend to do shorter videos, do you intend to keep going in that direction on the main channel? I can see that you are interested in the creative stuff over the commentary, but if you intend to make courses out of the process behind the final product I think you will end up with only short videos on youtube.

I had this conversation/said it SEVERAL times I think that video might even be just authentically. The song is a banger. It's less jarring to hear it the way we know it (maybe that's just bc I have privilege in here as a pat lmao). The faces changing is impressive as a tech thing, but again, jarring if what you're aiming for is to focus on the vibe to go with the song. BUT the flow of the video itself, visually...it was great.

Thanks Joel! We've been experimenting with some AI in our business and it's interesting to see the potential for use in other industries. (Ours is boring procedure writing, not creative or entertaining.) It's kind of exciting-slightly-scary to see how fast technology is advancing in these ways! Whether or not you keep on this track forever, it's always fun to learn and play with new ways to create art. No effort is a waste of time as long as you're learning and having fun along the way! I did read it as I quoted directly from it, but it's not clear on the course page as it says "learn to transform voices and faces using ai" which sounds like it would include voice swapping and I know you said it's a bit of a gimmick too but why advertise it that way if it's not included? but there's also the issue of using someone else's likeness too, not just their voice I'm just looking at it from a legal point of view and feel like it it most likely end up being more trouble than what it's worth imo It just feels you're really pushing the ai stuff opposed to your actual expertise in music and content creation and that's what threw a lot of us. I think it would have been better received if you didn't go so hard in the ai direction in your initial announcement.

I saw it but it doesn't answer the question of why you think it's a good business endeavor when you said "I understand it can't last forever" and "I expect to take the video down in 6 months to a year once laws change". That sounds like it's not really profitable long term once laws change? idk I'm failing to see why it's a good investment and to spend so much time on it when it's not guaranteed. eta that it seems like you get that it can be problematic in the future so also adds to my confusion I feel like I have to disclaim myself that I'm not hating, just wanting to have a discussion and I apologize for getting heated at times 😅

I understand that. It's really an issue awaiting legislation - while I think my use of it is moral and doesn't pretend to be any of the singers in question (it's clear it's me), uses where you pretend to be a particular person or try to fool people is not ok imo. I am fully expecting to take this video down in 6 months-1 year once laws change, and I'm ok with that. For now, I think I was able to make a really cool piece of art, and I understand it can't last forever. As far as the course, it focuses on applications of modeling your own or your collaborator's voices for music making purposes. The voice cloning I see mainly as a bit of a gimmick.
