Thursday Blursday

Hey gang,

Most of my day today went towards thinking about the music course I'm making. As it stands now, it will be called:

"Maximize your vocal potential: singing, tuning, recording, melody crafting & producing for outstanding vocals & impactful songs"

The idea is that it should be accessible for both beginners & pros. How does that title strike you? I know it's a bit wordy, just trying to get all the parts in there :D

Also finalized some things for my visa renewal and checked my sponsor email/inboxes hehe.

Leaning towards making another channel for my music making, and bring back a slower cadence of commentary videos on the main channel. I think it makes sense to keep the main channel personality centric after what we talked about (chatted with some friends too) and then I can build a separate thing of shorter creative videos on another channel :) Sound good?

I think putting his name in the course or roomie is a good idea!

Hej! I thought your last video was awesome and I bet it will pick up traction. I imagine it’s a challenge wanting to be creative and fresh but then also needing to think about reliable views. I think it would be cool if you mix it up on the main channel, and have at least weekly uploads to keep the hardcore people and casual people engaged, with both reliable commentary type things AND fun, new stuff like what you just released, and music learning stuff. Just ideas! I’m excited for it all, and as some others said do what you love and don’t overthink it, even our feedback, we appreciate you involving us but you know what works for you and we are also your more niche audience :). I hope you have a happy birthday tomorrow. ILY 🤘🏻🖤🎶

The title is definitely a bit on the wordy side. You want to be able to grab attention quickly. Maybe use the tags/search terms to attach more of the detailed words you want to use. The ppl looking for those terms will be putting them in the search bar. As far as the channels go, I understand what you mean. The problem is just that ppl get comfy with stuff and they take a while to warm up to stuff. They were the same when you started doing less "music making" before and now it's the reverse. But in both situations it shook out in the end. Whichever direction you go, commit. Stick to your guns. Your "ride or die" crew will sub to ALL the channels and watch all the videos. ❤️

I read it!

Good morning! More thinking on the title might be an idea 😉 With regard to making a new channel, that might work as long as you will be able to divide your time efficiently between both. I believe you already know the audience for your main channel, especially those mysterious, elusive occasional viewers are interested in hearing about your opinions on their favorite artists and songs, not songwriting. The new channel will be a slow grow but it is your passion so do it. Some cross promotion videos on the main channel might help the growth ie. talking about hits and how you believe the thought process was or little details the average listener (me) might not catch in production. And of course cross platform shorts for Insta and the Tikky Tok. Whatever you do, do it with joy and I'll watch.

Cas

The title does seem kind of long, but I think that all depends on where the course is going to be available, how/where you’ll market it, and how people are going to find it. I have no musical talent at all, but I have to say I’m intrigued. Lol Regardless of the number of channels, I do hope that when you bring the commentary videos back, you randomly (or maybe it’s not so random 😉) burst into song. Those were always my favorite parts. <3

Dorie

Sorry for the long comment. I literally just said nobody wants to read that much. Lol.

Kat

Hard agree with everyone saying "split the title." When looking for a course, nobody's gonna read a long title. "Maximize Your Vocals" or "How To Maximize Your Vocals" are great options. The rest is kind of inferred, but if it's not inferred enough, you can put the other info in the description (or, like Sarah said, the thumbnail. I think that's an awesome idea, personally). As far as the second channel: the only thing I can really say is just to consider whether or not a second channel (more specifically building an audience base there) would distract you from doing the important things (like keeping your income channel alive or making music, which makes you genuinely happy). You know youreelf better than any of us.

Kat

They all sound great and very interesting. Looking forward to it. I think you should give it a shot. The commentary videos were always really entertaining.

Woke up late and don't have enough time for as thoughtful an answer as I want atm. I'll get back at lunch. I did want to take a minute to say good morning :).

Dannielle O'Neill

Some others had good suggestions for short titles, keep that long guy for the description. Very exciting you're making a course! Still unsure if going to separate channels would be better than interspersing different videos types in a schedule on the main channel. Mostly because it's difficult to start over from basically scratch. But you'd know what your audience wants/is expecting a bit easier.

MediocreAtBest

Sounds epic! Can‘t wait for all that to happen. For the tilte I think it depends where it will be available as different platforms have different algorithms. Maybe the platform you choose has a guide for titles (for example etsy is very particular for search results with titles and tags) As usual I cant waiiiiit to see what you will create. I could use that course sooo bad 😅

Cheekii

Joel, they all sound really great. Looking forward to the educational video. Hope you have more lined up. I really hope more that you have given time for rest. Thank you so much for letting us have an inside view on your thought process. ❤️❤️😘😘

What about - "Maximize your vocal potential & produce impactful songs" (The '&' could also be swapped with 'to' depends what you think sounds better). The rest of the words you used feel more like they should go in the description or summary section if there is one. I also like what someone else said about potentially adding 'How to' at the front, up to you though.

Leanne

Hey, I think the title is a good, but yeah maybe a little long. That's a good idea about a new channel for different content.

Miriam

I'd strongly suggest to just call it "Maximize your vocal potential". Maybe add "How to" in the beginning. The detailed description you plan to use in the title is nevertheless still good, interesting and convincing. You should use it in thumbnails, tweets, on Insta etc.

Sarah

I tend to agree with you about the title being a bit wordy. The idea of splitting it up into a shorter title with a description or course summary seems like a good idea. Can I just ask you don’t do those long ads talking about why your course is different and better and everyone else is wrong etc and promising to tell you things but then don’t. They’re so frustrating! The idea about another channel focusing on different content might work in attracting different audiences. It might take a bit of time to establish an audience though.

Shiny

I think it’s a good seo based title 😅

Calize

Shut up and take my money Joel!! 🤣 I’m excited!!! 🥳🥳🥳

Aubrey Danielle

This is my opinion. I put a lot of thought into this. The title I come up with is: “Joel Berghult directs music theory courses.” The course is about you and you are the star. I believe your name should be in the title. Then, in the description you could define what music theory means to you. Then you could list all those words. You can always think about it.

Stephanie Bruso

As most have already said, the title is a bit wordy but it’s also exciting at the same time so maybe if you named it Maximise Your Vocal Potential and use the rest as a pre course summary so people still get a feel for what the course is about? 🙂 As for dividing up the content, give it a shot and see where it goes. You can always revolt back to combining everything if it doesn’t work out, nothing has to be permanent! Sounds like you’ve spent today being super productive and figuring out where you want to go moving forward, hope it’s made your headspace a bit lighter 😊

Jen 🦙

That's my boii 👍🏼

Hayley

Wow that's a title n then some! You could switch it round and say "The art of creating impactful songs by maximizing vocal and production potential" It sounds hella good and it's available to all levels..damn! It could be an excellent gateway course to many career paths and college courses! I think you're right with the main channel and sub channel concept, lots of people do it and it opens up the possibility to gain further sponsorship/ad revenue. You're doing great Joel, pats on the back for productivity today 👍❤️

Clair (Teampanda)

Playing with the words a bit, could be something closer to “Singing, crafting melodies, recording and producing outstanding vocals for impactful songs” …less of a mouthful maybe

emy

Hard to think of a title that includes everything! We have faith you can figure it out 😄 also hope you are having lots of coffee still!

Misty Gerkman

Totally! People don’t read a lot, so i understand the strategy of basically packing the course description into the title. And I guess it depends on what kind of platform it’s going to be hosted on too.

emy

As others have said, the name of the course might be too wordy. But it sounds like interesting content! Do you know what you might call your new channel?

loonylovesgood

I'm so sorry about your pupper. Making that choice is never fun, but it gets easier, I promise.

Mari

Exactly… I kinda read everything after the : as a subtitle and not the main title anyways… Soo just those 3 words were enough.. like Gemma’s pro vocal artist groups/bootcamps… They’re always like PVA: title of boot camp 😂

Airyckah Lane

The course name is a little long. Save some surprise for the syllabus. Lol. The idea itself is great, though. We had to put our dog down today, so I'm a little sad; however, I do enjoy the updates (they provide a good distraction)and I think a separate channel would be a good idea if you're looking to make separate content regularly. I do agree that I fell in love with the storytimes/devils advocate type videos and the humor that came from that, but also enjoy commentary. You're doing great and can't wait to see what you come up with next!

Melissa

Are you thinking about starting the new channel from the scratch or dedicate one of the already existing ones to just music making stuff? 🤔 As for the course’s name, it’s that long that I forgot what was at the beginning of the name when I finally finished reading it 🙃

Helga 🦊

The course name is pretty long but at least anyone searching for individual keywords will be able to find it. As far as the two channels, trying to keep up two channels with two separate audiences sounds like a lot of work and you going to have to be careful of burnout. You already tend to take on too much work

Lianne Conroy

Thanks for the update!! The music course sounds really awesome. Your plans for different channels for your content/videos is also a great idea. 👍

Bookdragon 43

Oh yeah that’s cool! And the name of the course will get shortened to what comes before the : anyway, cause that’s what always happens with long/specific titles

emy

This is an idea you've been working on for a while (different channels with its own porpouse) maybe it's time to make it happen... looking forward to whatever is coming. Abracito. Ps: Name of the course... a real challenge for us esl :(

Ave Castruita

I think the course name is definitely too long and trying to include too many things at once. Stick to the KISS method, you know? I think having a separate channel for music stuff could be good, but also it's starting from scratch and it might be discouraging at first if it's not performing how you hoped straight away. Which I can see you abandoning for that reason lol I also was one of the people who grew tired of the commentary as it became monotonous over time. I was someone who found your channel when you were doing storytimes and the Devil's Advocate series and I really sort of miss the chaoticness and hilarity that ensued during those videos where you literally had no idea where it was going to go or end up. They were absolutely wonderful and truly showcased your personality the best imo You should do whatever feels right for you and what is true to yourself. That is and always will be the best choice you can make 💛

Mari

This sounds great and I admire the way you keep tweaking the balance to get it just right. Being practical AND fulfilled is fucking hard but you inspire me to wanna try to get there too. The title of the course sounds real exciting. One thought is whether you need ‘tuning’ in there when you already list recording and producing? It could be redundant, and also make people wonder whether you’ll teach how to sing in tune vs tuning recorded vocals?

emy

That sounds really great. Yes, a bit wordy but it makes it clearer ig. You're right to separate, it's a different work so it totally make sense. Go 👍😊

Magalie Leplus

If you take out the “your” we can call it “MVP” for short 😇🙃… I love it

Airyckah Lane

Yes 👍 whatever you do, we’re going to support you! I miss videos of you singing and trying to dance lol 😂
