Song Demo: "That B Gotta Go"
Added 2022-01-20 23:38:46 +0000 UTCA song idea I made a couple weeks ago based on doing a funky/disco pop song but using the Harmonic Minor Scale (You will hear it in the chorus). Experimenting with ways to make songs different, would love to hear your thoughts. A lot of these I probably will never finish.
Also, fair warning, there's a "b-word" in there - it was just what came out when I was singing jibberish.

The fun part is that I kinda like it. at first you're like "wow, this is weird" but in the end it kinda sticks in your head and I enjoy it. I feel like there's something to dig. I do love the idea of rythmical singing in the beginning, but the instrumental would need to be less chopped or at least not chopped the same way as voice, to highlight the voice rythm instead of doubling it (if my english makes sense at some point ^^)

The sustained background notes I feel like want a varied rhythm as well…not removing the sweet sweet funky disco bop, but maybe another layer? I dunno. You literally went to school for this, and I’m a librarian with groupie tendencies. (Or used to before the pandemic.) 😋 I’d listen to it on repeat exactly as it is…and already have, lol.

The effects at the end "but that b* botta go" are... (gosh, if I'd be better with wording) are too weird (?) like, my brain is confused. Very ending seems too oriental, but I dunno 🤔 I like the bit tho and some simpler parts of the melody 😉

To me it sounds overly music school cool and not for an average audience (and I am very average). I think some of the elements would be interesting to include (maybe in another song) but not everything all at once. :D

2022-01-21 00:00:44 +0000 UTCI'm not an expert, so forgive me if my phrasing is wrong. I really liked the staccato sounds, those notes felt unique and exciting. Not a big fan of the toned down notes (not sure if I said that right) in the background toward the end of this clip. It seems too loud and out of balance with your vocal tones. The chorus is bangin, and I would love to hear you finish it. I like the pop/funk vibe and it seems like you hear less of that lately - so it feels fresh and new. I've never seen anyone write a song with "voice sounds" without having all the lyrics down. It seems backwards from a lot of songwriters (in a good way!) You have an interesting way of producing and it's just fascinating to watch you put things together. I'm sure a lot of it is edited out of the final videos, but it seems brilliant the way you can think of just the right kick or pop to put somewhere. My brother had a band and it was really cool watching the creation of music in real time - but yeah they often started with lyrics then worked out the right tempo, chords, etc. I've never seen a song written on a computer program before I started watching your videos, and it's just so awesome to watch that process.

Though I could see why youd want to avoid the samey-ness. 🤔 eh. The ascending-descending thing you've got there just makes me think of Snake charmers... which makes me think of snakes.. 😅 I don't like snakes. lol. 🤣 Otherwise pretty groovy. I like the vibe.

Like, when I wad a younger and we used to go to roller derby, but not like lame...like racing type. It fits where the lyrics seem to lead. This makes no sense. Particularly in the "that b" bit of the chorus. But the "go" at the end was super fun and interesting! Also, the abruptness of the beginning (ne-VRR, been THE, etc.) was cool and drew me in. I love when you share these demos for us. Keep going :D

Personally I'm a huge fan of minor 7 chords, so the leading tone comes out pretty hard, but the way you did it works pretty well with meshing major chords in to make it a bit of a smoother transition.
