Music is for Jinshi's relationship's with MaoMao, it's not connected to the bowing. Bowing is because Jinshi's a royalty. Jinshi performing ceremony - that's royalty. Jinshi as "eunuch" - that's incognito Jinshi, nobody bows to him like that. Royalty can't run, I mean, could if royalty's life was in danger, but... anyway. In Ancient China - here we are in the fantasy equivalent of ancient China - one was NOT ALLOWED to look directly at the face of the Emperor or Emperor's direct family, and 'Jinshi' (not Jinshi the incognito, but the real Jinshi) is of royal family, hence people can't look him in the face. Note that Lakan is shocked enough atm and also of high enough standing atm that he IS looking - well, mostly looking at Mao - as the royalty passes by him. Is it because of Lakan's high standing? Or because of Lakan's shock because of things happening to MaoMao, Lakan's daughter? anyway, no spoilers, just think on it, or smth. That's why I won't even comment on your theories. :D Lakan is prolly of high enough standing that he prolly won't get punished for 'looking at the royalty, in the face, at that' (but actually looking at MaoMao, but it's not like that's obvious to people), but, why does Lakan risk it? Or is it just pure shock? The consorts might know that 'Jinshi' is Jinshi, and Lakan might know, but anybody else might not know - after all, they are not allowed to see the royalty's face, unless permitted, with a word or a gesture (remember how MaoMao was not looking at the Emperor's face at first in their scene together? :) ), so, how would they know, you see? :D No spoilers here, mostly explanation of how people not high enough to keep secrets would NOT know that Jinshi the Royalty is Jinshi the supposed eunuch, Jinshi the incognito let's just call him. So. Yup. What we know is what few people know - consorts, Lakan, etc. Lakan lets MaoMao go inside. Did Lakan plan things, or did Lakan discover things? MaoMao knows now that there was assassination attempt. with the logic of knowing things, if we did not know MaoMao, we could suppose, if we did not know Mao, that MaoMao planned to have the royalty almost assassinated and then saved by her... see? So, in making theories, always remember that, unlike with Mao, we do not know Lakan's thoughts. Or consort's thoughts. Etc. Look, if you looked from outside, you could even suspect MaoMao of the assassination - would it make sense? So, that way, you can ask yourself- would it make sense with Lakan? Would it make sense with Gyo? Would it make sense with Pure Consort? anybody else? etc. No spoilers, just food for thought, okay? :D tldr: I'm not telling you who was phone (sorry, old internet meme, one of my favs XD ), just telling you to consider: did that person have REASONS to be phone (or to discover who was phone and say smth about it or not say anything about it ) ;) XD ? Anyway, no spoilers, I promise. as for Jinshi not looking shocked: he IS looking! but as a member of the royalty, he is socially not allowed to make a scene! In the manga, which is another adaptation of the light novel, he is running with MaoMao. in the org light novel, the scene happens offscreen, as the light novels are from MaoMao's PoV. I like both anime and manga interpretations of the offscreen scene. Manga interpretation is influenced by emotions. Anime interpretation is influenced by the fact that Jinshi does not want to make MaoMao a target, as sb cared for by royalty could become a target. So... /shrugs... choose whichever interpretation you wish, keeping in mind that it's an offscreen scene in the light novel ,as Mao was unconscious and could Not witness it from her own PoV. (i like the anime scene because of the song. but, err, idk if MaoMao has that much blood to lose, so, they may have gone a bit 'artistic licence' with it, if you know what I mean?) (also, the manga scene is just a few panels, later, from MaoMao half conscious PoV, so it might not be accurate, either, one could say that she just thinks that Jinshi ran, while she does not know that Jinshi is a royalty...? so, one could easily think that mangaMaoMao is an unreliable narrator...? idk. choose your own interpreation XD ) and yeah, might not look it, but I swear there are NO SPOILERS in my comment, I was very careful with this. XD
