[SILVER] Apothecary Diaries (S1E11) "Reducing Two to One"

Comments

I forgot, you are watching Apothecary, yay, I love Apothecary! Dub issue: English is my second lg, I have no stake here (I'm a Pole, still living in Poland & no plans to change that unlike my older bro who made a family overseas in Japan - if you ever have a question purely regarding Japan, I can ask him on skype or whatever XD )... Iiii think I might show the dub some leniency if they needed to change words to match the lip flaps. In the end of the day, if I said in my lg, for example: "kopnęła w kalendarz" ("she kicked the bucket", but if you wanna be literal for Polish "she kicked a/the calendar - one of my fav phrases for dying as long as nobody uses it in the presence of close ones of sb who kicked it XD) and sb translated it as "oopsie, she died"... the translation would not be Wrong, at all, now would it?. But at the end of the day, She is potentially lying. Just in ENG dub. With common knowledge that the child who maybe died, the world percieves as being dead dead, as far as the people know. So is the dub really wrong in this translation choice? If it can still be read as a lie from mother?

For me, it's that I had followed the sub's ambiguous wording in my thought process. Then when I listened to the dub, I felt like that ambigiousness was dropped by changing the wording, so I got rid of those notes. Then, this episode, that ambiguousness returned as a plot point! lol

Know Your Roll

Regarding the dub saying "died". To defend that... Common knowledge is the son DID die, and when Maomao said that, she had no reason to believe otherwise. Not our fault you got off that train of thought because you believed what Maomao also believed at that time lol. That is assuming that Maomao's new theory about the baby swap is actually true. EDIT: And someone in your chat just told you the following. Oh well, I already wrote it all out so I'm posting it anyways: As for the pre-episode talk of the current Emperor and Ah-Duo being Foster siblings. This is a mistranslation, or a mis-use of the term. The intention was to signify that they had a close, almost familial relationship, possibly sharing the same nursemaid, rather then being in a literal foster relationship. They really should have translated it differently, because "foster siblings" has an actual, literal meaning of a kid that is taken in and raised by a foster family.
