Which type of Bat? Assessing Survival
Added 2024-10-02 16:03:20 +0000 UTCFor our October and first Halloween themed episode of Assessing Survival, we'll be placing either Vampire Bats OR False Vampire bats in the Jehol Biota (Liaoning Province) of Early Cretaceous China.
Vampire Bats: Very small, only 4 inches in length, has a diet of just blood but could potentially have much more interesting spec evo and survival assessment.
False Vampire Bats: Largest carnivorous bat species, a little over a foot in length, more standard carnivore diet like rodents, birds and other bats. This would be a more standard survival assessment.
Choosing the Liaoning Province because of the abundance of bird and pterosaur fossils, which are going to be their main threat.
