This movie hits so much closer to home now that I've grown. I went through the same things with my own father that Hiccup does. Trying to follow in his footsteps and failing. Finding my own comforts and interests that he just couldn't understand. Seeing him succumb to his emotions out of fear because he didn't know how to guide me. And eventually accepting that I had found my own way. Like you said, this movie is such a different experience when you have the maturity to see past the "OOH, Dragons" bit.

I also loved Hiccup myself, I joked about me forgetting how skinny he was in the first movie, but at the end of the day I loved what he stood for and eventually didn’t back down when it came to protecting Toothless. It’s also hard to go against what others want or are accustomed to as well, such as his father especially. Seeing this movie in an older age type of lens, I love how I kind of see Hiccup like a Historical Figure that might have changed things for the better forever. Thank you for commenting by the way!

Seeing myself in Hiccup and having to adjust to a new social environment as a kid back then made this movie a gem close to my heart. Funny enough, due to having read some of the books first, I was initially disappointed that Toothless was nothing like what was written in the book. In fact, the only commonalities between movie and book were the setting and most character and dragon names. But by the end of the movie, when the title flashed, I looked at the screen in disbelief and completely forgot about the books altogether. This movie has been the title-defining work for me ever since. Also you might have missed an opportunity to say 'this shit blows', at the end :)
