Next project - April 2025

Good afternoon everybody, I hope you're doing great. It's been a week since the last project. I've taken a few days off to recharged the mental batteries. I'm now cruising around the edges of the next project.

I took the time to get some much needed jobs done in real life. A fence needed some repairs, some decking needed painting, an electrician needed calling. But also I really needed to look into upgrading my existing PC.

As I was reviewing which parts would be a good idea last week, I figure it would be sensible to get those ordered and installed before going full-steam ahead on the next edit. Please forgive 1-2 days of downtime, as I seek to make all the necessary upgrades. The parts should start arriving tomorrow.

With the last videos being Arma, Helldivers, Alyx, Space Engineers, Halo and Ron/SWAT 4, I wonder if perhaps it's time to tackle something a little bigger as a change of pace?

I'm currently thinking about the following. Not sure these options will be the only ones. But currently in my head:

----------------------------------------------

1.) Sons of the Forest script attempt 2

In March-August last year, the attempt to produce a follow-up video-essay to the first Forest stumbled somewhat, with the realisation that I've perhaps made an error in the script stage. Resulting in a video that would end up being far too long and ponderous to be worth the extensive editing time. Perhaps it's time for another crack at the script?

I could go back and see what I want to salvage from the original attempt. And then work on a revised (hopefully much more concise) version. And see where it goes from there.

----------------------------------------------

2.) Dungeons and Dragons bullshittery

Languishing for years now, this project truly entered development hell. It's an animation of a game of Dungeons and Dragons that was played over teamspeak and on that Roll20 website, with the ZF clan.

Overall it's proved too time consuming to finish and too complex to do in small chunks because it's too easy to simply forget what you were doing when left on the back burner. I worry that if I don't do something drastic it'll never see the light of day.

Perhaps it's worth giving it the same treatment as I did The Forest? Basically a case of 'knuckle down until it's finished' approach. Doing whatever it takes, whatever artist assistance is required, to get this project forever out the door.

----------------------------------------------

3.) Work on some unrealised projects

I have some ideas for other projects that I could spend some time on. A couple of video-essay topics. An audio-book style short story I like. None of them are particularly formed. But if I'm feeling creative I could try and give those a bash.

----------------------------------------------

4.) Return to a bullshittery if the above falls through

If I'm not able to enter the sort of mood that required writing scripts, I could easily fall back to working on a regular bullshittery. There's plenty still left in the pipeline. Arma Vietnam, Team Fortress 2, Valheim, Human Fall Flat, Holdfast. Shouldn't at all be a problem selecting a bullshittery alternative.

For now, let me work on the PC upgrades and have a think. Thanks all.

Comments

Having just watched the D and D video from years back, I would love to see it completed but I've also just watched you finish SOTF and generally enjoy whatever you make so I say follow the muse.

I say go with D&D. If you're genuinely concerned that it's gonna just... never be done unless you DO it, now is a good time.
