Halo bullshittery - Update #4

Good morning all. Super brief update on Halo bullshittery.

It's currently the 4th week (of a planned 4) on the edit. And the video as a whole has cleared the phase 1 of keyframing. Meaning all 10 minutes have been animated in Adobe After Effects, both last week and the week before.

It's now going through the quality assurance rework/phase 2 refinements - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uEHLe1Upd37f0iejP-PrGfmXhokLjmr1fHEi9wyPwvc/edit?usp=sharing

Whilst I'm hoping to have the video ready by Friday. My gut tells me I'll probably slip the deadline. There's a lot remaining. I'll do my best, but clearing so much in 3 days seems overly optimistic.

For those unfamiliar with my process, after the principle cutting stage, followed by the typical 2 weeks to keyframe everything, I like to blur the line between simple quality assurance and a stage of refinements/rework - having intentionally skipped some of the more complicated editing tasks before this point.

This skipped work could include - for example - masking. The process in which I block segments of the text to give that illusion that things are moving in the background.

I've learnt a lesson previously that it's best to leave that stuff to the very end, because if you're going to stick 3 hours into carefully cutting shapes around moving objects, then you need to be certain the scene in question is not hitting the cutting room floor at the 11th hour.

Additionally, I mentioned earlier that I was hoping to have an SFM commission completed for a short 6 second bit. In the end I've decided to give it a bash myself. Because I was really surprised by the number and quality of the SFM models for Halo. Meaning getting the scene and animating it proved to be a much more simple affair than I'd expected.

Right now, it's going to mostly be a case of trying to  match the lighting. So down that rabbit hole I go later. I have no doubt there's lots of Youtube tutorials. There were for Team Fortress.

Beyond these two things, there's not a huge amount of drama concerning this particular project. Even if that makes for a boring Patreon update. For everything has been going smoothly and all the scenes have been coming together.

Though I might slip the deadline and be crunching this weekend/next week.
