Attending the D&D Premiere & Party!

Hello everyone Jasper here!

I wanted to jump on and talk a little about last week, we reiterate this point in an upcoming episode but the first and only place to start is thank you! Your support of this show has so far exceeded our wildest dreams. Thursday & Friday felt ridiculously special and we had so many people approach us to say that they loved 3BH and what we do, but the only reason we are there is because of you.

This next bit I am going to put on socials but I wanted to say it here first. I know everyone has a strained relationship with D&D after the OGL nonsense BUT if you can allow yourself, go check out this movie. It is extremely funny and while not perfect we all had a really good time, Liv saw it twice now and enjoyed it more the second time!

But that’s not actually the main thing I wanted to mention, I had an idea for 3 Black Halflings pretty much exactly 3 years ago. I wanted to increase representation within this wonderful community & do so with a smile and LOTS of big belly laughs! There is so much to feel overwhelmed and angry at especially as a minority & so I wanted us to have a safe space to talk, laugh & cry together! As Unati says “Black Joy is a valid form of protest” & that is what we set out to do, be joyful and laugh. We have spent the last 3 years laughing & joking sometimes uncontrollably (which I am sure made for TERRIBLE audio, my apologies!) whilst discussing heavy topics, controversies & saying some uncomfortable things because we thought that someone needed to say it as well as uplifting others, making some BADASS actual play and hopefully making people laugh. Safe to say the reaction has been nothing less than a miracle this community embraced us & uplifted us, to say I feel fortunate to be in the position I am now in, is an understatement, but that isn’t to downplay any of our hard work but there has been plenty of incredible people and shows who deserve so much and aren’t lucky enough to be where we are! We have worked so so freaking hard to continue to make this show, whilst putting way more into it than we get out (financially speaking). So I want to take a quick second to thank my fellow halflings Jeremy, Liv & of course former but forever halfling Unati for putting so much into this show.

This leads me to last week, being invited to the premiere for me personally felt like such a huge moment! It really felt like a culmination of hard work over the last 3 years. Not only was it just incredibly freaking cool BUT It was a Dungeons & Dragons movie that featured two dual heritage actors as leading roles AND THEY CRUSH IT. Throughout my life as an actor, I remember people saying they "didn't know what my casting was" but openly laughed at me when I said I wanted to play a leading man even my first encounter with DnD was playing with an all-white group of friends where I was told I was only allowed to play the wizard because it had a black lady on the character sheet. Fast forward to here and I am walking a literally red carpet seeing Justice Smith & Rege-Jean Page get interviewed & I am there as an invited guest, UNREAL. Then Friday and we find ourselves at the TOWER OF LONDON getting a private viewing of the crown jewels, playing fun little games & toasting with some of the best people in the industry before the cast came along for a Q & A!

I feel genuinely very emotional after the event because it felt validating & empowering. REPRESENTATION MATTERS! I feel like I could walk on water and that there was nothing I couldn’t achieve! I am more determined than ever to have an impact on this space, through acting, producing, and directing any way people will let me. 3 Black Halflings has bought me more success, happiness & courage than anything in my life bar my family or beautiful partner. So to anyone that has ever, liked, shared, listened or supported 3 Black Halflings, from the bottom of my heart thank you!

Not to get greedy but I am already manifesting a role in the next D&D Movie/TV series SO HARD!

Love it, Jasper. And look at Jeremy, representing that D&D in a Castle cape!

We’ve really been on the fence about seeing the movie, because we want to support the crew, but we’re also really frustrated with WoTC. So hearing your praise of the movie is giving me things to mull over
