New Benefit: FREE Astrospheric Pro for the upcoming eclipses

Hi Everyone,

I'm excited to announce that for both the upcoming Annular Eclipse in October 2023, and the upcoming Total Solar Eclipse in April 2024, all Nebula Photos Patreon Members will get one month of free access to Astrospheric Pro leading up to each eclipse. Astrospheric Pro is the best weather forecasting app for North America geared towards astronomy and cloud forecasts. This will be a great help for all eclipse chasers in finding the ideal spot for viewing and photographing the solar eclipses.

To claim this benefit, all the instructions are here in this helpful webpage Daniel Fiordalis (creator of Astrospheric) made: https://www.astrospheric.com/nebulaphotos/

And the code to join the Nebula Photos Subspace group is:

AsV1C_YmxhbmsgZjJiYTg0MmE=

After joining the Nebula Photos group over there, you will be all set to get Astrospheric Pro for free between September 14 - October 15, 2023 and between March 8 - April 9, 2024.

If you have any questions, feel free to comment below.

I'll be releasing my next video in 'Preparing for the Total Solar Eclipse' series this week, and will be promoting this new benefit at the end of the video during the Patreon Credits.

Clear skies,

Nico

Yes! I do see them all. And since it is totally cloudy here, it is all white. Great. Thanks again for your help.

Katherine Waybrant

I do see you as part of the group with the username KathyRW and the same email that you are using on Patreon, so we are narrowing it down. Maybe it's still prompting you to upgrade to Pro even though you have the Pro features enabled. On the map, do you see three cloud icons: a b&w one, a colorful one and then that is labeled NBM? If you see those, you are all set. The one that is particularly useful is the colorful one. When you tap it, you should see the words 'Cloud ensemble' and want to avoid white on the map. White indicates all three major models agree it will be cloudy there.

Hi. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I tried this code and I get a message that is is either expired or that I am already a member of this group. I don't see your group in the list of Astronomical Societies and Clubs and when trying to use the app, I get the message that I need to upgrade to PRO. Perhaps the group is not called Patreon or Nebula Photos Patreon? Maybe I should delete the app and start again?

Katherine Waybrant

Hi Katherine, The above code should still work, but Daniel let me know sometimes mobile phones remove the '=' when you copy-paste, so here is anther one to try: S_f2ba842a Message me if you still are having trouble getting in.

Nico Carver

Hi, is there a new code for Astrospheric as I received an response that the code is invalid. I first used the one I got with my initial joining email and then the one shown above. Thanks!

Katherine Waybrant

Hi Steven, I talked to Daniel (creator of Astrospheric) about this, and I think we have a workaround for you. The web browser version of Astrospheric including the Pro features that are free for the eclipse should still work for you. To get the web version working on a phone does require a very specific URL. It is: https://www.astrospheric.com/?App=iphone You need to enter it exactly as above, but you should then have a mobile version of Astrospheric that is very similar to the app experience. You could bookmark this and add it your home screen. You will still need to log in and join the Nebula Photos group with the code in the post to get the Pro features. Hope this helps! Nico

I'll be traveling to Texas from Europe/Netherlands for the eclipse. Given where I live, I'm not allowed to download the Astrospheric App on the AppStore for use when I arrive in the US. I do not think this will change after my arrival, as Apple ID's are coupled to regional versions of App Store. A bit of a bummer :-(. Any suggestions are welcome!

Steven

Scroll down until you see the solar eclipse section. Click the yellow map button for either upcoming eclipse

Nico Carver

how do you overlay the eclipse path with Astropheric's maps?

Bill Nichols

So excited for your upcoming Eclipse series! The 2017 Total Solar Eclipse really got me into astrophotography.

Cidney Hue

this app is great. wonderful tips here !

Casey Schultheis

Haha, well when expansion does happen I'll definitely take this into consideration!

Daniel Fiordalis

I understand, and can appreciate why you wouldn't want to expand to some enormous other continent. That's why I think you should start with the smallest of the continents--Zealandia! And our weather here is famously easy to predict.... (OK, maybe that's a bit of a stretch.)

Oamaruastro

Speaking for Astrospheric, I don't have plans to expand beyond North America at this time. The models and folks I work with for data access are all US and Canada centric. I'll never say "never", but worldwide support (or even just expanding to another continent) isn't in my near-term plans.

Daniel Fiordalis

Does anyone know if Astrospheric has plans to expand beyond North America (or if there's a similar product for those of us who live in Australasia)?

Oamaruastro

It’s a great app. I really enjoy it. I have the pro version and it’s a time and big time money saver. There is nothing worse than driving far off to a dark sky site and being surprised by clouds or smoke. It helps you save gas which saves you money and pretty much it pays for itself.

Bill Stewart (AstroSeabee)

I am in Michigan and lake really messes with forecasting. Do I or do I not pull the equipment out 😀

Randy Bolser

I really like it. It's interesting how rarely the ensemble cloud forecast completely agrees for the NE, but I've come to learn which models are more accurate and which are less accurate for my area.

Nico Carver

Nice! Sounds like a good plan

Nico Carver

Thank you. I have been using this app to track the smoke all summer. I think it's time to pay for the pro version.

Randy Bolser

I think the absoloute direct center of path is just E of Beaver and there are some pulloffs there. Check it...

Phil Monier

Thanks!! OTR trucker Phil Monier here. Plan has been for months to park the rig in Beaver,UT at the Flying J/pilot, wich is in the direct path. I got my friend a hotel room close by and we will either view from the sage brush prarie next to the pilot if Beaver is clear or hop in her car and find a clear site. Getting to truckstop the day before for some nightime imaging as well.
