thanks

It can be normal for mounts to have a small bit of play but when actually tracking with the gears engaged, not be a problem. Since you aren't getting good results though, I'd go ahead and return it. I've heard that others have gotten bad copies. It's too bad, because it has a lot of potential, but it seems the QC is not too good.

Nico Carver

yes, I have. With guiding, 2min exp, 300mm canon, mod 70d, stars are still not round. This can be polar and star alignment issues, but I was worried that mount wobble is playing part in it. Highpoint has given me a small ext on RMA window, but I don't want to loose unspecified $ in re-stocking and s/h fees if the new unit will have similar wobbles. Your unit has a small play too, that should not messup stracking when RA heads move around (over hours)?

Balvant Patel

Yes, mine has some play. Maybe a little less than that, but similar. Have you tried imaging with it yet?

I need your help in finding if my Skywatcher ADV GTI unit is defective. Unit's RA head has a play. It wobbles (even when the RA clutch knob is tight) when I wiggle it from the end of the weight bar. here is short video http://drive.google.com/file/d/1PIjlk6kJQbVqMgcbwFDXJVqwcm8h54_V/view?usp=drivesdk After looking at video co tech replied that his unit has same play. I will appreciate if someone can check their unit and see is such movement of RA head is common. thanks.

Thanks Nico! I ended up looking on your YouTube page and did find it. This is helpful. Thanks.

Hi Mark, I think I was talking about this video: https://youtu.be/Ju9yeXK4jEc

Yes, it should guide in Dec, mine did. First idea: Check the settings for a setting that says something like 'Guide in Ra only' and make sure that is not checked.

Nico Carver

I recently acquired Skywatcher adv gti mount. In PHD2, it can only control RA and not Dec. I thought it should be able to guide using both. Am I wrong?

Balvant Patel

I couldn’t make the Live call, so appreciate that these are recorded! I had been wondering about Multi Night procedures in DSS, so thanks for mentioning there’s a video for that. Looking forward to watching this. You mentioned a chart to identify stars or targets? Thank you!
