Q&A and Big Giveaway

Thanks yes it works great , I just needed to run a higher ISO and I have the screen as Bright as it will go. I started out with 1 min. Exposures left those there for now I had the moon working against me as well, the few exposures I got at 1 minute weren't tailing so I know polar alignment was good , good tip and thankyou , next clear night I'm going to do 30 second exposures with a 300 mm lens. I'll keep practicing it will come in time.

It depends on the camera. Sometimes, the live view can be tricked in to producing a brighter image by cranking up the ISO and exposure time. You then just have to remember to turn those back down after framing. Also, check your menu, often there is a setting for screen brightness you may be able to turn up. Orion constellation should be visible in live view I would think regardless of focal length, but definitely at 50mm+. It's a learning process. We're you able to confirm that the tracker was working with a test shot?

Hello , Nico as you know I tried out my very first startracker , I only ran into 1 problem I could not see the stars in my view finder I would find the brightest star then get it to focus I then turned to Orion and I couldn't see thr constellation. ? The lens was crystal clear no problems there. I was using a 18/58 mm is it possible that the lens is to small aperture wise not being able yo see anything in the viewfinder or liveview.

Nico , I watched your 4 hour critique video, I learned so much by watching and taking note., You have no idea the impact that you make on us amateurs 'I am truly grateful. If I keep watching reading and practicing I might actually learn to take a nebulae photo. I like your attitude on advice you never down anyone and you always give good feedback along the way. But man I basically appreciate your instruction.

Thankyou Michelle I will look into it , Have a great day , Clear Skies

An open webinar is a great Idea, I watched your 1 1/2 hr conversation with a red headed guy with a NASA shirt on very informative. I'd Love to see more of the learning curves like stepping up to a tracker , exposure lengths, Max exposures for a tracker, explain a little more on ISO , I caught a lot out of that video. your humble beginnings are a lot like my own .I liked your comments on Satellites and their effect on astrophotography, you were discussing your keeping your images as pure as possible through processing. another topic was shooting in a light polluted area which Fortunately I am in the sticks not much light pollution, but to learn about filters would be an interesting topic for me. I know you said when your doing test exposers before you take your lights look at the histogram I'd like to see some examples of what that entails Maybe go a little more in depth on filters as well as tracked exposure times as well as I'm only asking for things that will help me and probable a lot of your other patrons, Just trying to ask each question as they come to mind, You inspired me from the first video I watched which was Shooting Orion with an intervalomer a tripod and a DSLR, I was taught Ryu Kyu Hon Kenpo Kobututsui by a very well trained 5th. degree black belt , who trained me for free , in return for me helping run the school, It's kinda what you are doing for your patrons here and that is integrity , discipline and just, well let me put it this way , you teach people for free and look where it is taking you, I see a guy on a mission and accomplishing it. I would never in my wildest dreams thought that I would be able to point a regular old camera into the sky and capture all these amazing colors and these gas clouds just keep blowing my mind every time I see new ones and ones that others process. anyway thankyou for helping me from the ground floor up and I am hitting another learning curve with a tracker so I'll need someone to show me how to continue and get the best exposers out of the equipment that I have , I am at a point where I will have the equipment I need for some time to come , now i have to max the equipment I have and then in maybe a year or so I add to what I have., Have a great day Nico and all other Patrons Darren M. Is there an app for Android phones to allow exposures longer than 30 second's for my nikon d3500 it only works by Wi-Fi and it installs snap bridge which doesn't have exposure setting? And it doesn't have a receptacle for a digital intervolometer?

Darren M. Coleman

An open webinar is a nice idea. After I get through the next few videos, I will do a poll on patreon to find a good time/date for doing that.

Nico Carver

cool Q&A...would have enjoyed it longer..how about a webinar some time for beginners where people can ask same questions...most videos are much longer and was getting to it when it finished..i understand its all time consuming so thanks for doing this and of course for the prizes🛸well done!
