GREAT CONJUNCTION of Jupiter and Saturn from the CITY

Put together a video very quickly (just filmed it a few hours ago) about the upcoming conjunction. I focused on a few basic tips for viewing / photographing it from the city. Go see it if you can!!

Hi Ken, usually if DSS can't register your photos, it's a focus issue. Can you send me some sample images: nicocarver@gmail.com?

Hey there Nico, On 12/18/20 , I set up the camera - Canon T5I with a 300mm lens @ F5.6 manual focus. ISO @1600 . Using deepsky stacker , I accumulated 32 stars@ 2% , DSS proceeded untill it finished processing. On 12/22/20 I set up the camera using the same lens but, at ISO at 800. Using deepsky stacker , this time after registering stacked photos , DSS reply with only 1 photo will be stacked. DSS is at the same settings but , ISO was set to 800, Stars this time was 2 @ 2% . Any advise on camera setup? Question does the ISO settings @ 1600 produce more stars than ISO 800? I not sure how to post my pic taken on 12/18/20 Thanks Ken

Thank you for the quick reply. Weather looks pretty shitty on the 21st until the end of 2020...go figure! Friday looks good - Saturn and Jupiter should be 22' apart...which should be a pretty sight, as well. Unfortunately the time-window (5-7pm) is not very family friendly, but maybe this could become a nice astronomy-adventure for the kids ;-) Best of luck with the weather for you and stay healthy!

Yep, they will get so close together that you will have plenty of field of view to fit them both in with that set-up. With an APS-C camera, you could even add a 2x barlow and still fit them in (although the seeing will likely not support that unless you are on a mountaintop)

Thank you Michelle, wishing you clear skies!

Thank you, also for the eyeball-method to measure how much 20Β° is. also, the moon is really close by Jupiter and Saturn (here in Europe at least), so that will probably make for some beautiful images as well.. On the 21, is a Maksutov with 1300mm and a APSC-C camera OK to have both planets in view?

great video & advice..ill head out this weekend and find that high spot!
