100 Patrons! Time for an exclusive video!

Wow, did not think I'd get to 100 patrons this fast! Thank you all!!

As a perk for being one of my first 100 patrons, you get to choose the topic for an exclusive video that will only be available here on Patreon.

Here's how the process will work:

1. Suggest video topics in the comments below. If you see your idea, please reply to that comment with a "+1" so I know it's a popular idea.

2. After one week, I will go through the comments and pick out videos I feel confident I could make reasonably quickly. I will then do a poll with about 5 choices for you all to pick the video I will make.

Clear skies, and thanks again, Nico

ps. I am aware I still owe you all the light pollution filters comparison video. All footage is shot and I am literally editing it right now. It took much longer than anticipated for a variety of reasons, but I will finally have it off my plate and uploaded to YouTube in just a few more days now.

Well, I can't top the other idea's that are listed here so I'm going to go off topic a bit. It would be helpful for me if an index existed where I could go to a particular video of yours after looking up a keyword. e.g. "Best ISO" would have a list of your video links where this is discussed. Maybe even the approximate time on the video where it's discussed.

I would like a video going through the different types of nebulas and how best to apture them.

Congratulations Nico! How about to take it a step further with a video of a grab & go system for DSOs with “cheap” H/W and even free software, including guiding, dithering? (For example DSLR, lens, guide camera, raspberry pi, astroberry)

Do you use a Schmidt Casagrain telescope? Could you show us how to use one with a DLSR to capture something like Andromeda galaxy? Thanks.

This is a great idea. I hope I can help you out so here's what I did. My image train is a Nikon 200mm lens going to a EFW 36mmx7 then to a ZWO ASI 1600mm. It required purchasing the ZWO #ZWO-EFW-NIKON-II connector ring which connects your lens to the EFW. My camera goes directly to the EFW, and I needed to get a holder for it, #ZWO-RINGD-78. Use Nico's OPT affiliate code! One trick is that the Nikon/EFW connector has a ring that can be undone, and backfocus was not a problem after that was removed. clear skies

Congrats on the 100 Patreons! I would be interested in learning how to perform drift alignment, a basic tutorial on the use of celestial equator and meridian. Also, understanding how to select dovetail plates and bars to achieve good balance. I just finished a small rig, and it too quite a bit of work to navigate the maze of dovetail bars :) Thanks a lot for your hard work and helping me get started

Connecting dedicated astro cameras to telephoto lenses. How to, whether to, is it wise, etc.

Thank you Nico, I am sure your new video will an interesting one.

2. I liked your theory videos like one about colors. I would like to see a video talking about gain, exposure and ISO and how it would fit different choice of filters.

Grigory Vidishev

1. Video that talks about shooting different types of deep sky objects and what are requirements for each type. Differences for exposure, filters, telescopes etc. I have not seen it on YouTube yet and it would be very helpful, because if you try to shoot something it is trial and error process.

Grigory Vidishev

Nico thank you for your videos. Some of the videos I watched multiple times. As you know I am quite new to the hobby and I struggling my way to my yet first images. I have couple of ideas I have not seen on YouTube.

Also excited about the filter comparison. Been looking forward to that since I'm in Bortle 8-9. Might take 6 months to order 1 at this point... Ugh.

I am new to astrophotography. I really appreciate your videos over many others because you provided detailed hands on examples. Other tend to push their classes or products they helped develop and while that is cool and they produce great shots, doesn't really help the new person. I am really struggling with why my results are poor. Being new to this, I don't know if it is my huge light pollution, my mount tracking, my scope, focus, flat quality, post-processing, ... So I don't know what to tackle next. Therfore, I am looking forward to your upcoming video on someone submitting their stuff and helping them get better results. I missed the deadline to submit mine. So more of those type of things would be great. The basics... What to look for in flats. Examples of good focus and bad focus. Examples of good and bad tracking. Additionally, not sure it is practical but maybe even a Patreon service where you could submit a link to your session files and review for recommendations to improve and see what you can do with the images?

A planet without telescope tutorial please. A difficult one ! Saturn.

My deep sky pictures usually have a red sky. Can that be removed with gimp without removing the red in the object?

David Maloney

" I am aware I still owe you all the light pollution filters comparison video." I am literally sitting here trying to decide what filter to purchase right now. AHHAHAHAHAHA Other than that, I'd be interested in a video on Astro Pixel Processor, but I don't know how quickly you could bang something out on that. I have been messing with it for the last couple of days and the light pollution removal aspect is fairly impressive. Of course, if I had a filter... ;-)
