3d Spatial Panner rack
Added 2024-03-27 05:24:41 +0000 UTCHowdy,
Its been a minute since I've uploaded anything - Ive been working at Dolby as an Audio Systems Intern for the past ~7 months, working on spatial audio/dolby atmos prototypes, helping do scientific research on sound localization, and learning about speaker systems. It's been fucking awesome, and I feel very lucky to have had this opportunity.
That's coming to an end now, and I'll be able to turn more focus onto creating some content and sharing some things that I've learned (that I can legally talk about lol)
This here is a 3d spatial panning rack - basically a massive upgrade on the previous stereo imaging rack that I've made. You don't need the spellbook to use this one, as I've created my own max for live patch that operates as a UI.
Watch the last 10 minutes of this video for an overview and how to use https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLZBxa3jQe8
note: this works best on mono sounds, and may require some volume normalization. How effective it may work depends entirely on the sounds using - it won't be able to place something 'above' you if it has no content above 8khz!!! Some sounds simply just work better than others due to the frequency content they have
The rack should be straightforward to download - just download the project file below and open it up in ableton. It should contain both the giant effect rack, and the max msp patch connected with it. Then just save the rack into your user library.
Remember, you can exchange the reverb in the rack (in the final audio effect, the doppler shift rack, the second chain contains a reverb you can swap out for your own)
Please let me know if you run into any difficulties, bugs, problems downloading/installing, or just any questions in general on the subject. And make sure to join the discord, thats the best place to ask questions https://discord.com/invite/vZpag6YVvy

Sounds incredibly interesting job wise ! I’d got obsessed at one stage trying different ways of achieving the most 3 dimensional of sounds , this cool rack should offer some more insight into achieving , would like to evolve it . Il be looking forward to checking out more of your videos/content!
