Hey All!
Introducing the Ghost Crab!! No, it's not all that ghostly, but that's what these cute crustaceans are called! I've been wanting to try a crab for quite some time, so it was a lot of fun to design this fella.
This design is a little unique in that most of the joints are designed to hold their posing. The legs do wiggle and flop when in their print position, but twist them around into the standing position and the joints tighten, allowing the legs to hold the body up in many fun positions. Same goes for the arms and main claw joint. The knees and pinchers also have ridges inside that allow them to hold poses. Those hinged joints may have a little resistance the first time you try to move them. Don’t be afraid to use some force to get them moving.
One last fun detail... the main limb joints are all snap-fit. So you can print the legs in different colors and just snap them into the sockets. I'm including several files, the "Full" version is the whole crab as a print-in-place model, and there is also a folder of "Separate Parts" which will make it easier to mix and match to your desire. All of the parts are interchangeable whether you start with the Full version, or jump right into printing the parts separately. It's also a great safety net, if you have a print failure, or if your printer tolerances are too tight or too loose. You can just print the legs a little bigger or smaller to compensate. There is a PDF guide included in the download.
I created a Demo Video of how all the joints work, and how you can replace the legs if you want!

3D PRINTING SETTINGS
”GhostCrab_Full” A or B: These versions are print-in place and ready to go, all in one STL/print.
- The“A” version has standard sized tolerances in the Leg socket joint
- The “B” version has slightly wider tolerances, in case your machine/filament prints with tolerances that are too tight.
“Separated Parts” folder (Optional): In this folder you will find the Body and all of the Legs separated out into individual STL files that will allow you to:
- set the legs to print in another color/filament.
- make fine scale adjustments to the legs for better tolerances.
- print individual legs to replace failed parts.
”Tolerance_Test_Print” (Optional): Video Demo
- A very fast print with both “A” and “B” leg tolerances. Print it to help choose which works best for you!
-3 Walls (when using 0.4 mm nozzle. 2 Walls with 0.6mm)
-10-15% infill (I like Gyroid)
This should generally scale down to about 70% with full articulation, on a well calibrated printer. YMMV
