Hey All!

Here it is!  The biggest of the big cats... The Tiger!  This was such a fun one to sculpt.  The stripes were particularly challenging, but I'm really happy with how it turned out.  This one is fully print-in-place.  Please review the video posted below on the best methods for freeing up the joints.  I hope you like it!!

I'm also including a pre-painted .3mf file for all you multi-extruder and BambuLab users (See slicer image above)!  I'm not planning on doing 3mf files all the time because it adds a significant amount of time and management, but I was particularly driven to make one for this design. So, this is a bit of a test for me to see how this process goes.  In general, my preference is to make the models fairly easy to paint for multi-color, and allow you all to just get creative with it.  I have been thinking about making a MMU painting tutorial video, if that's something that interests people.

Happy Printing!
Matt

3D PRINTING SETTINGS

Please watch this Video on the best way to free up the joints (demo'd on the Bunny model)!

Some members of testing group successfully printed this model down to 65% scale, but YMMV.

Ever solve for this? I have had it happen 3 times now. Sent a new file each time. Always at the exact same spot

BoozingPanda

Has anyone had problems with this printing? Got to 95% and it shifted on the plate. Suggestions?

Magic Storm Art

I’m not really sure. For my mmmini tiger, I used PolyTerra Sunrise Orange, because that’s what I had on-hand. I’m not sure how close it is to a standard tiger orange.

MatMire_Makes

Quick Question - what color filament do you recommend for the standard "tiger orange"? Your post mentions the unicorn and blue hombre, but I want to print a "regular" colored tiger, I just know my Bambu and Overture orange are far too bright. Thanks!

Darryl Kegg

I haven't printed one that big myself, but one of my testers did with a bunny. I think at that scale they applied some heat around the body joints to help soften the inner supports up a little, then they came loose fairly easy. Alternately, you could try using something like a butter knife or similar tool to insert into the joint and break up the inner supports.

MatMire_Makes

Any ideas on how to print it at 200%? I can't get the body parts to come part, but all the other joints are fine. In fact the print came apart at the seams but the bottom of the body stayed put, where the supports are

Francis Pelland

This looks amazing can’t wait to print one or more but ooooo can I toss an idea for a future print maybe🤞🏻a snow leopard 😍I don’t think I’d stop printing those …just a thought. Just saying ur wrk is amazing

Lambette Conrad

I just printed this! It came out beautifully!

Tanya Ledbetter

yup! very soon!

MatMire_Makes

will there be a tiger magnet

Denise Lindstrom

That's a masterpiece!!!

Osmia Confections

These are amazing! Already have several printed and it's such a well designed file! Thank you! More "zoo" animals please! maybe a penguin? lol

TheNocturnist

Thank you for thickening up the contact points on the neck! I look forward to printing this design. :)

Chantal

They elbow joints do articulate. Watch the video in the above post. To free them up, it’s best to hold it close to the joint, then wiggle them a little bit side-to-side before forward and back. The 170% one will probably be a bit tougher. I show it in this video too… https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRoYEWtP/

MatMire_Makes

Im in love, ive printed one at 100% and the other %170 and both printed perfectly. Are the front legs ment to move at the elbow joint? I was trying to break support but it was very hard so im not sure if its ment to move or not.

I released an update (v02beta) that should hopefully take care of that issue. I only heard from two people who had the head problem and many have already printed it without issue, so I don’t think you should need to worry too much. I’ve printed about a dozen of test prints on the Bambu without any head problems, so it seems like it was pretty rare. The update should help even more. In general I use default speeds on the Bambu, except I slow down outer walls to 60mm/s for most PLA and 30mm/s for Silk/Metallics.

MatMire_Makes

I have my first one on the printer now and I'm super excited, but a bit nervous as it nears the head portion from what others have mentioned. Those with a bambu, what speed setting did you have it at? Should I slow her down now?

Becky Flippin

Hmm. It should be very similar to the bunny head as far as print stability. Could you send me some info like slicer, print setting, and pictures of the fail? From a few angles. Any curling? Also, send your gcode export file if possible. matmire.makes@gmail.com

MatMire_Makes

I think this is beautiful, but I can’t seem to get this one to finish. The head comes loose and falls forward at the same spot (about the top of the nose) and the print fails. I have no problems with the jackalope and rabbit (or any other model, really), but I just can’t this one to finish. 😩

Chase Palmer

You should be able to pick whatever color you want for the separate color sections. And use the fill tool to swap the “orange” sections to the white filament.

MatMire_Makes

Would you be willing to add a Bengal tiger coloration in black and white?

Tony Sullivan

Thank you for having a 3MF for both PrusaSlicer and Bambu Studio. I know Bambu has made multi-color even more popular, but there's still a lot of us who use a different system, so we use PrusaSlicer instead.

Vinnie Simonetti

Oh, I like this idea!

MatMire_Makes

I really like that you provide recommended printer settings. It is possible to add a PDF to the ZIP file so we don't have to go back and find the original posts?

Paul Osentowski

The AMS for my Bambu JUST got here! This will be my first print. Im so excited! I love it!

Sarah Scarne

Love it! Can't wait to paint one!

Melanie and Dave Nevins

are you going to paint it to show us?

Joel

Yup! That should be ready soon.

MatMire_Makes

Mine just finished this morning and it looks great!

Michael Rogers

Will there be a tiger head magnet

Denise Lindstrom

Woohoo! I guessed it right. lol Love it!

Chantal

Getting ALL the mileage on that orange filament!

Toni Castulik

My daughter would adore an otter too!! We live close to an aquarium & we love to go just to watch them play 💜

Jessica Hamblen

I love that you put one that has the paint done.

Sean Harr

Just showed my 5yo daughter, she wants me to print one right away.

David Gorst

Well you did it again! I have to get right on this one very soon.

Eric J(3DLife)

LOVE him!!!! Now my daughter is asking about an otter🤣

Spideyraccoon

YES

CHRIS

We tested it down to around 65% without issue. We also tested at 120% and 200%. The 120% was fine. It took a little more effort to crack the chest joint free. At 200% even more so for the chest and head. For that big one, the tester used a heat gun to help it free up those joints. Then it was all good.

MatMire_Makes

Yay!!! I LOVE tigers!!!

Marvelle Alice

It’s amazing and I’d love to see a painting tutorial!!

Zarra Van De Kreeke

Question, I've noticed scaling down the Axolotl head to 70 or up to 120+ causes the pre-supported versions to fail, obviously the scaling messes up the tolerances between the support and the filament on top. Will that happen with this model too, do you know?

Brandon Davids

omg looks so good we need a long ferret can’t wait to print a lot of these got 3 printers open

Jayden Riesner

Love it! I'm going to need to start my own filament production line with the waste on this one!

Brandon Davids

Ha! I was way off! Looks good

Herb Veitenhans

Amazing as always!

Pretzel Prints

Feel free to paint back some of the colors. I figured better to go beyond, so that people can dial back if they want. This version goes to the max, haha. Still, with the stripes… it’s a long one.

MatMire_Makes

WHAT?! Also…massive anxiety looking at that 3mf and all the color changes 🤣

Ben - FlexiPals

Omg I have 10 hrs left on a print! Noooooo can’t wait for this ❤️❤️❤️ it’s GORGEOUS

Kelly H

Love being so close to right... hahahaha 🤣😹

Knechtel3dPrints

That looks amazing! Can’t wait to print it!

Kayla

Beautiful and thank you so much for the 3mf!
