also AWESOME background =) so based on what you've sprinkled around them so far, if i had to guess a few things about this new character i'd say they're kinda miserable, maybe they're depressed, they're probably live alone and they like it that way (or say they do), they either sail or used to sail (it's tempting to guess they can't sail anymore for some reason and that's why they're depressed), also they have a sensitive side which they hide behind a gruff exterior. they feel like an archetype, which is fine but also, i'm sure you'll soon complicate them in fun and lovely ways ^^
