Lilliad Chapter 40 (draft)

The crunch of old bones underneath her feet somewhat undercut her relief, however.
As dangerous and odd as the Sorceress Mairi was, she was right to accuse the ruins of having “bad vibes”. The plague that had ravaged it had ended years and years ago, and yet the place still reeked of death and despair.
She noted some claw marks and what she decided to interpret as a ghoulish paint job on the walls. If she refused to think about it, none of it looked like grasping desperate hands, writing bloody goodbyes on the walls of a fallen city.
‘Ok. Yes. This place is a bummer. And I’m temporarily exposed without Igni.’ Lilli eyed her companions. Ser Alcuin was strong and fairly good as a meat shield. But she would have to compete with Elathor for the knight’s protection if it came down to it.
‘But luckily, there doesn’t seem to be anything here.’
Elathor was indeed miffed, a sign that boded well for her continued survival. They kept muttering testily under their breath and discarding random objects from the ruined city.
