Photoshop secrets and ideas (part one)

You already know how I work. It's not a problem to add perfect light, backgrounds etc. But sometimes you can aim higher using your imagination. This is the story of one of my most acclaimed portraits.

1. This was my first cover (2013) and I was extremely happy and proud of it. But how I did it? Sometimes I don't know what to expect :)

2. Original shot. Bad shadows on Nadya's face.  Bad angle of her hands. Black nails (I hate it!) Her body doesnt look good too.  But something in her face I really like.

3. So horizontal composition instead of vertical, my typical postwork. Not perfect, of course, I was still a beginner. And hands...

4. I thought this is the final version. No hands at all!

5. One month later I did bnw conversion and uploaded it to 500px, and boom! I got a letter from the Digital camera magazine. My first cover :)

6. And another one, four years later :)

I already did! :) It's already here, Dec 25th. Check it, ask me if you will have questions.

Can you do a tutorial on bnw conversion? What makes a good bnw? I used to think it was contrast but I realize I just don't know what draws me to them. I just know I like them.

Mr. J

Why? It's a normal question. As I know, now they pay almost nothing. Six year ago I got 300 pounds, but it wasn't important at all. Exposure is everything, it helped me a lot.

None of my business and you don’t have to answer but I’m curious if magazines pay for use of photos or is the exposure sufficient?
