Chapter 4 preview #3, estimated release date and some behind the scenes plans
Added 2022-06-08 23:49:13 +0000 UTCHi everyone,
I’ve made a lot of progress since the last update and I’m relatively optimistic that the 4th chapter of “Nothing is Forever” will be released in the next 3 weeks (i.e. still in June) unless I get there is some setback.
This will be the biggest chapter thus far. In fact, it’s probable that the next couple ones will be shorter than this one. This chapter was quite hard to manage and took too much time. I think shorter chapters released at closer intervals are better for me, and probably also for patrons that get to enjoy updates more frequently, even if shorter ones.

Behind the scenes I'm also working on a few changes that will, hopefully, improve the experience for patrons. Namely:
- 1) Better proofreading out of the box.
Osaniko is a native English speaker that has always generously helped me not only spellcheck every line of dialogue, but also actively changing them to sound more natural. During the development of this chapter, he has already been working on the script, instead of doing it only after release, like with the previous chapters.
However, since I’m still working and editing the script, he hasn’t yet gotten the whole thing, so, he most likely won’t have the opportunity to do his magic with the whole script before release. Nevertheless, I’m sure his work will already be noticed on the release version, which should make the chapter more enjoyable for you all.

- 2) Better integration with itch.io.
I really like all the features that itch provides to developers. One of them is providing us with download areas restricted only to our patrons. I’ll try this functionality for the first time this release to give you a download link that’s fast, reliable, doesn’t get broken after a certain time, doesn’t have any publicity, and doesn’t have limits for how much you can download. As far as I know, you don’t need to create any account, you’ll have access to the download link simply by using your patreon credentials. I’ll still provide alternative links with MEGA, but I encourage you to try that functionality and give me feedback.
(Evening conversations are always enjoyable)
- 3) One time payments.
I’ll also be using itch to allow anyone that likes “Nothing is Forever” to buy it in a single payment and get access to all future updates. The most recent updates will still be released first on Patreon, if nothing else to see if there isn’t any game breaking bugs. But after a few days, the game will be updated on itch as well.
In parallel, my plan is for anyone that has supported the game here on Patreon with the same amount as the game will be sold on itch, also gets an “itch key” (it’s similar to a steam key) which grants them forever access to all future updates, even if they stop being patrons.
I’ve always felt is very unfair that someone loses access new updates after stopping being a patron, even when they have contributed with a significant amount of money. I don’t want that to happen to anyone that was generous enough to support this project. Something very similar to this is already being implemented currently, but the idea is to make it simpler, more convenient to both me and ex-patrons, and also with a smaller delay between release on Patreon or on Itch.
This way, if anyone can’t/doesn’t want to further support this project, they still get rewards that fit their contribution. At the same time, current patrons still get to play updates first (even if just a few days), get access to polls, and anything else that’s going on here on Patreon.
This will take a bit of time and experimentation to implement, since I’ve never done it before and I am still not entirely sure of how it can work. But I’ll try to implement this after chapter 4 release in the hopes that it starts to work flawlessly for future updates.

This is all for today. Thank you for your patience and support. I know this chapter took longer than expected and I apologize for that, but the waiting is almost over.
Cheers!
