Yay I finished! I got this idea while watching the show Chernobyl. I really like this idea and probs could write 100 pages of it, which is why it took me so long to finish this one :) Hope you all enjoy!!!
“We got a call boys” The Highlands fire department morning shift was enjoying lunch at Cheeseburger Queen when their radio’s started buzzing. “Let’s fucking get it boys” the very muscular Bryce screamed as fire engine’s alarm blared. The ex Navy Seal was trying to get his guys hyped up, not many big fires happened in The Highlands, so Bryce and his squadron (Alan, Tim, Josh and Brandon) were a little rusty when it came to battling actual fires, and early reports indicated this was a big one.
Bryce was an ex Navy Seal a husband to his high school sweetheart and a father of 2 elementary aged boys. The tatted up veteran was a 6’ 6” 230 pound athletic monster, he excelled in the SEALS and firefighting. The 42 year old guy was fairly new to firefighting, but Josh, told him he was a natural.
Alan was also an athletic freak, a former wrestler in college he was also insanely well built. Alan wasn’t the smartest guy around, kind of a meathead to be honest. The 29 year old never had been in a long term relationship. He was a more hit it and quit it type of guy, he would have to find the perfect girl to give up his bachelor life.
Josh was the captain of the guys, he was a 30 year firefighting veteran. The 51 year old had seen everything ranging from wildfires to skyscraper fires in his career. He planned to retire and sail the world with his wife within a couple of years. He was the wisest man of the group.
Tim and Brandon were both younger guys in their early 20’s. Both were hired last month as part of the expansion of their department. They were still learning the ropes from the other 3 but quickly adapting the firefighting life.
The crew scrambled out of the restaurant and into their truck. Bryce flipped on the sirens as Alan floored it. “What are they saying about the fire?” Bryce yelled at Josh, who was listening closely to the radio. Josh look puzzled, “They are reporting… pink smoke?” All the guys let out a simultaneous, “Huh?” As they had never even heard of such a thing. Josh relayed the news it was some kind of accidental explosion at a testing facility. As soon as they were a mile away they could see the massive plume in the sky. The smoke almost looked… pretty.
The squadron were the first crew that pulled up on the scene, as they pulled up to the building, they could immediately feel the heat of the fire. They got out and scrambled to man their positions. As Brandon was finishing connecting the hose, Tim noticed a weird glowing rock on the ground, curiously, he turned it over, immediately the searing pink smoke coming from the rock seemed is face, “Ow!” He yelled immediately dropping it, “What the fuck? Those rocks must be what’s causing the fire!” He suddenly had a huge headache. Brandon had finally screwed on the hose, “Ready!” He yelled to Tim, only Tim didn’t turn on the hose, Tim was on the ground yelling in pain, Brandon ran over to him, and what he saw he wasn’t prepared for.
His hand that he had used to pick up the rock with was noticeably darker… almost looking like it had been spray tanned. Brandon looked at his body, which was already swelling from whatever had happened. Brandon shouted for a paramedic as loud as he could, his friend was dying right in front of him. Brandon watched as a couple more minutes pass, Tim’s face looked completely different, whatever had happened, it was nasty. A shockwave of fear overcame Brandon he continued to breathe in the heavy smoke, a paramedic finally arrived, Brandon helped load his best friend into the ambulance, but instead of staying to help with the fire, he got into the ambulance with Tim, he wanted to make sure his friend was okay, but most of all, he was scared for his life, there was something different about this fire.
