OMG she has clearly never been to China. Ive lived there 2008 -2011 and i drove a VW Passat while I was there. China now has 1 of the largest middle income demographics. I know for a fact chinese will buy a foreign brand over a local as soon as they have that buying power. There is a strong trend in the chinese psyche to show they are successful by way of possessions. I base my comment from my first hand experience involved in operating retail outlets in Guangxi China. Tesla has celebraty like status and I see them slaying it in China. Yeah lots of other EV makers. Many "as you know" with limited production 10000 is a common number . lets remember there is 1.6billion ish population in china.
