Early Access - Update
Added 2022-08-01 17:49:02 +0000 UTCHi everyone! I imagine you'll have seen even more chaos regarding early access and nothing is any clearer, so a few creators took to EA Helpdesk for advice.
One was told early access was stopped. I asked and was told that they didn't have the authority to answer that question (which nullifies the first response in my mind), but that I could continue with the original time period model, and another friend was told to wait for an official announcement.
The policy is as follows:
Mods must be non-commercial and distributed free-of-charge. Mods cannot be sold, licensed, or rented for a fee, nor can Mods contain features that would support monetary transactions of any type. However, Maxis recognizes that creating Mods takes time and resources. Accordingly, Mod developers may recoup their development costs via passive advertisements and donations as long as:Passive advertisements and requests for donations must be limited to the Mod website or distribution site, and not appear within the Mod itself.
All users must be able to access the Mods in full for free regardless of whether they donate.
The last sentence is what's causing the confusion. I read it as "as long as the mod is offered free without having to donate, this is fine", which means Early Access is okay. Some others read it as mods must be free from the point of posting, which I don't see, but it's vague, so I can understand why there's confusion.
The set creation is coming along nicely and will be released around the 10th-15th as normal, so please don't worry about that 💜 if it has to be free from the day of posting, it will be, but if not, it'll be the regular early access period.

2022-08-02 21:02:41 +0000 UTCThey may have been intentionally vague. I'd say that early access could be argued that early access still abides by the policy. It says that they must be able to access the mods fully for free. Early access is just posting something before you make the mod fully available for free. The outcome is the same.
