Important notice regarding Patreon

It's March already, yet I haven't got used to the fact that it's already 2023, which marks the eighth year since I launched Great Ming Military blog.

I started writing with the intention of sharing the fascinating military history of China, in particular Ming Dynasty, to the wider world, hence I've always kept the monetisation of my content to a minimum. Unfortunately, reading, researching and writing articles are a huge commitment and time sink for little return, made worse because I have to work a wage slave job and have minor but persistent health problem (skin irritation that impedes on my ability to focus and write). As such, while I am eternally grateful that such a niche topic can still find audience and supporters at all, I am also aware that this isn't going to be sustainable in the long run.

I still want continue doing what I love, which is to produce content and sharing knowledge, so nothing will change on that end—I will still write free articles for my blog. However, going forward I will make some changes to my Patreon:

Firstly, the "Tipper ($1)" tier, which is the only active tier as of now, will now have a one-month early access to all content I produced for my blog. This means from now on I will write entire article in my Patreon post, rather than simply putting a link that redirects to my blog.
Secondly, I will bump all patrons-exclusive content to a higher tier, the new "Supporter ($6)“ tier. Unfortunately, since I am using Founders plan for Patreon, I don't have access to per creation billing, so it will remain as monthly subscription just like Tipper tier. Currently available Tipper exclusive content will remain as is.
Thirdly, for truly long articles that require a lot of effort to create, such as my Siege of Ulsan series, I will eventually create an improved version with better formatting and extra content, and will look for ways to make them available as one-time purchase. I haven't set my mind on this yet though, maybe upload them to Gumroad?
