I'm running a campaign now on the Jiajing era wokou raids (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiajing_wokou_raids), and it's really hard to get more nuanced information about the ship styles available to the pirates and the imperial navy. I've looked reasonably diligently. Everything comes back to "junks," which, as you note, is painfully non-specific. Keep up with the naval posts!
