They almost did, in 1576-77 at Mongyang states. Chinese sources recorded that Mongyang State dealt a serious blow to Bayinnaung's army in an ambush, but Bayinnaung came back in 1579 and conquered Mongyang. Ming had send an army in, but it was prevented to take any action. Burmese sources apparently recorded that Bayinnaung straight-up conquered Mongyang in 1577.
