Hello to my Cinderelle crew! This is your Captain Troy with some exciting updates on the Cinderelle relaunch, and a pinch of behind-the-scenes tea of what it's been like working with Webtoons.

First off, I want to thank you all for your patience and support for me so far. I have had my head in the sand for a few months working hard on my story and neglecting everything else. I'm finally confident enough to start sharing content, sneak peaks, and concept art with you!

I've added a new, $2 tier. As you may know, I can no longer offer early access to episodes here as is Webtoons policy. Both tiers will offer extra art, concept art, and scrapped panels. While I plan to eventually post timelapses again to the $5 tier, it currently has no additional bonus content. I appreciate you supporting me in anyway you can!

Since signing with Webtoons in December, Cinderelle has gone through a metamorphosis. I want to be upfront and say that there are going to be a LOT of changes, and the rating may end up more mature (I'm aiming for young adult as opposed to the teen rating I think my Canvas series would be assigned.) However, I've only made changes that made me more confident in my plot, so that I can tell a cohesive story till the end.

My intention is to tell a story that is goofy, silly, and lighthearted, though also overly dramatic and full of angsty hot people who want to kiss/kill each other. The stakes are higher, as will be the romantic and sexual tension between characters. Expect trickery, backstabbing, blackmail, duplicitiousness. It's all in the nature of my love of reversals and turning expectations on their head.

I'm taking Cinderelle out of the semi-historically accurate Regency time period. Though I still am flavoring my story with the Regency Era, I've taken them out of England and put them instead in a fictional kingdom. I love the court drama and visuals of Regency England, but I found some of the rules too restrictive for my story (and I don't have time to explain a lot of customs of the time period.) I wanted to tell the story in a world where there is no racism/homophobia/transphobia or other bigotry, and the focus is on class struggles. My characters are punished for their actions, not things they cannot change about themselves (except class. the class struggle is crucial to any Cinderella story!)

It's taken me a bit longer than is customary to get to where I am with my story. As you know, I was approached in October by an editor from Webtoons, and I signed the contract in December.  My editor had given me a lot of great ideas for my story....too many great ideas, all of which I was cramming into my packed story. I felt more uncertain than ever about the overall message of Cinderelle, and it was all very messy and caused me anxiety to work on. Despite this, by the first week of January I was drawing the first episode (this picture of Henry was supposed to be apart of this episode.)

My editor was fired just as I had been given the green light to start episode 1. Some of you may not know this, but the Webtoons editors are the comic artists' main source of contact with Webtoons, so I was very freaked out when I heard he would no longer be my editor. I was assigned a new editor within a week by Webtoons, and I've been working with her since.

My new editor is a great fit for me and Cinderelle. She has forced me to tackle the structure of my story, which has helped Cinderelle become much more clean, cohesive, and compact. I know where I need to take my characters and why, what each of them are motivated by and thinking in each scene, and what their dynamics are with each other. My head feels clear! I am refreshed! I am so grateful to my new editor. Of course I was able to accomplish this fresh draft of Cinderelle through my own efforts, but my editor has been like a guiding light. She is not afraid to ask the tough questions, and she has my best interests at heart.

We've been working really hard together, and soon I'll be drawing episode 1... for the third time now. All the stress, uncertainty, and labor has been worth it. I'm telling the story I would want to read, and I can't wait to make everyone else fall in love with the new Cinderelle. Here on Patreon I'll be sharing all that I can get away with, including the scrapped panels from my second take on episode 1!! i have a few months of posts lined up already that I can't wait to share with you. I can't wait to finally engage with my Cinderelle community again <3

Please, if you have any questions about the webtoons process, the writing process, the story, anything, please feel free to ask, I'll do my best to reply.

I also want to give a headup that I will be sharing a lot of Concept art, which means you'll see me exploring styles/character designs that may not be in the final version of Cinderelle!
