Lt. Freya Season Finale - Thoughts and Blog

So before I drop an F in chat for the Captain... Let me say a few things about issue 08 being different than the others. 

Issue 08 was a tone shift. It's not permanent. I'm not going grimdark. So... why do it at all? 

You all know I wrote these characters and this story when I was very young. And the original draft was an allegory for my violent childhood. Captain Morrison was my self insert. 

Without rehashing the details... someone tried to kill me. And I thought I would die. But I lived. This is why the brain implants / cybernetics brought him back from the dead. A nod to my own death experience. 

He was my avatar- a representation of the part of me that survived so much. The part of me that lived and spent the last 28 years furiously trying to protect me with fear, anger, etc... but which I no longer need running the show.

I want to draw attention to  his defiance when the gun is pulled on him. His zero hesitation in rejecting Krieger. Well.. I was given that choice- consent or die. I chose death, too. I got lucky and lived. But I very much love the part of me who never gave in. And so I wrote a comic to show my love and move on.

I thought it was the only way to PROPERLY show respect for my past. But... I deserve a better future.

So... what's next? Well.  Lt. Freya will of course continue with Season 2! A more cyberpunk world I think... lean into the sci fi. But I'm taking a break from the comic drawing itself for a while.

Over the next two months I'll be finishing the novel. And I'm going to attempt the Visual Novel. If I get in over my head with a VN... I'll admit defeat. I def wanna try at least a mini 30 minute story t ho!  

So I expect Season 2 will begin in 2 months. I'll spend time revamping and really digging my heels in with stories that aren't personal catharsis... but still personal. And yes. There will be cute.
