In my headcanon universe, there was a break between Rani and Kion in a continuation. (After S3 of The Lion Guard series) They remained friends, but Kion left the Tree of Life.
Well, some part of him will stay there no matter what now...When Rani became mother of their three cubs. She did it as one and only Queen, carrying all the duties of the ruler at the same time.
Kion was in a middle of the war with Zira, and he didn't know about the heirs born.
Luckily, Rani had her pride, her family to be with her. To support her in this difficult times, when sometimes Queen couldn't even afford herself a little sleep...
