Comments

Episode 3? Glad I was out after 2

Mountain of Conflict

The latest episode was really pointless, it felt like the plot didn’t move forward at all except for when one character recognised another from S1. At the moment I think most of the world is sick of rich white Americans.

You literally just need to skip back a couple minutes in your podcast app if you want to hear the start of the joke. The whole point is to reward people who listen to the weekly plugs.

Jeff is so tsundere for The Monkey.

I like drawing pigeons

I also enjoyed Heart Eyes. I felt like it was a perfect parody of both super cheesy rom coms and generic slasher movies, and it was a lot of fun, with some very funny bits in it.

Stranger2Reality

Rumour is, Broccoli and Wilson got $1bn for it. (Source: The Rest Is Entertainment podcast)

The colour grade on White Lotus s2 was more obnoxious than s1 for me - I had to set a custom white balance on my TV to make it through.

Geordie Ross-Conley

Dave, regarding the warm filter of the new The White Lotus season. Ben Kutchins is the DP of the new season, he also shot season 1 of The White Lotus and established and shot Ozark season 1. I would say having a strong color cast and is kind of his style. Love it or hate it, it makes a series quite easily recognizable.. :)

Patrick Neon

You’re really this worried about the punchline of Dave’s daggy jokes?

Mark P

I know Jeff loved the SNL 50 special, but just wanted to shout out and recommend the 3 hour SNL 50 homecoming concert on Peacock. It is literally wall to wall great music played by iconic acts. David Byrne? Nirvana? Backstreet Boys? The Fugees? Devo? Eddie Vedder? Arcade Fire? CHER? The acts literally kept one upping each other. (Except for Jelly Roll whose set was terrible) Yes, it’s 3 hours long, but it was phenomenal and may be one of the best concerts ever committed to tape from a sheer variety and icon standpoint.

No that’s not it, but for example, love hurts hasn’t been released in AUS, so I’ll listen to the first half of the show on release (including the weekly plugs), but I only just saw love hurts and it begins with a joke that I don’t recall the set up from 2 weeks ago. I just don’t think it really works.

Jay Wood

It’s helpful to know that Denver’s nickname of “The Mile High City” is literally true because its official elevation is exactly one mile, or 5280 feet.

NR

The whole point is to incentivize people to listen to the weekly plugs section. The joke is usually just a minute or two before the punchline. If you only hear the punchline and are confused, the joke’s on you 😉

DarmineDoggyDoor

Right! the highest mountain in the US (Denali) is only around 20,000 feet

DarmineDoggyDoor

Denver is 5000 ft not 22,000 ft above sea level ;) and your blood adapts to elevation over time.

Mark Griffith

I noticed one Stephen King Easter egg - the babysitter was named Annie Wilkes (from Misery). I don’t think it’s implied to be the same character, just the same name as a little wink. Were there any others?

Cameron S

That was one kid????? I actually thought it was two different kids, which I thought was an odd choice since Theo James played both adults

Cameron S

I’m outside the US and don’t have this issue

April Reid

Not Ash Trevino getting a mention on The Filmcast. 😅

Suzie Ngo

I had the exact same issues as you. Didn't hate it, but didn't find the humor all that funny. Felt like the dialogue was almost there, but felt like first draft version of the jokes. Wished the kills were more interesting

Joe Cabello

I'm still very impressed at how the actor who played the younger version of the twins was amazing in the roles. Tatiana Maslany must have been so proud.

Albert VergeldeDios

I’m so happy for somebody else to bring up the colour grading of white lotus. I didn’t continue past season 1 because the show is so visually ugly. I’ve spent a lot of time in Hawaii and the main difference there is how saturated and bright the blues and greens are from the lush vegetation and rainfall and soft sun. It’s not like here in Australia where everything is burnt to a crisp and desaturated. Hawaii has a very cool and blue colour temperature in real life and they put the 2000’s Xbox 360 piss filter over everything making Hawaii look like piss. I hate it.

April Reid

Best part of Bond movies is when they go to 5 different countries im 4 continents. Not many people spending that much on second units anymore lol.

Roshar Space Fleet

Maybe it’s my dark sense of humor and world view, but I thoroughly enjoyed ‘The Monkey’ and found it very funny. I’m surprised you guys haven’t mentioned ‘Heart Eyes’, a weird mash-up of a meet-cute rom-com and a gory slasher film. Though it’s more heavy-handed than ‘The Monkey’, the two films share a similarly goofy-campy tone, and teeter back and forth between bloody violence and humorous set-ups. ‘The Monkey’ is more successful, in my view, but both movies had me cackling. Very interesting that these two funny-scary films were released around the same time!

CDMatthew

The Monkey seemed to work so hard to convince the viewer it was ‘fun’ without ever providing any fun. No one would for a second think it was scary, and the ‘humour’ was flat and ill fitting. Near enough to a complete miss. Plus some of the kills flashed past so quickly I wasn’t sure what had actually happened?!? Anyone else have this issue?

Mark P

Hey team, not sure if the joke bit is working. For listeners outside of the US, sometimes we don’t listen to the whole episode first time due to releases. But when we finally do we hear the movie trailer and then a weird punchline without the context because it was some time ago? I’m not sure how the joke helps.

Jay Wood

Agreed with Devindra. The White Lotus got worse in S2 and is now so tired.

Mountain of Conflict

I'm not a big Bond guy. But, I do love Casino Royal and Skyfall. However, if they want to get my attention- they need to set the new Bond franchise in the 40s/50s. A return to a classy, stylistic, retro spy thriller has so much potential to reenergize Bond.

Timothy Mably

Did I miss it, or did Dave not talk about Jailbreak (on the list of things we've been watching)?

Cindy McIntyre

Another week of not hearing Jeff’s take on Sing Sing. One day, it will happen. One day.

Tyler Appleby

I don't care it was a fun movie.
