You wear your favorite jeans until they are shreds.

Your body rubs away denim, fiber by fiber, until the light shines through them.
It takes years, but all through the power of your body moving and living in these jeans, rubbing against them every day, grinding them away from the inside, you wear right through them.
One day you put them on like normal and then you crouch or you bend and we all hear the rip.

This is how I love you.

With my needle and my thread, this is how I do it.
I cannibalize denim from your older pants to sew into the newer ones. I tightly stitch down the edges of the holes so they can't unravel and I back the threadbare sections with the scavenged material so the light can't shine through anymore and I sew all the layers- the old and the new- I sew them together so they can't come apart again, no matter how hard you move and live in them.

Iām getting better. Each time I patch your jeans, I learn a little more, the process becomes easier, faster. It's even looking better! I'm figuring out how to make my practical stitches pretty and interesting. It's challenging, it's fun. I look forward to trying out my newest techniques when you come home with your newest tears.

You love to wear your jeans to shreds and I love to sew them right back up. It's how I show I care. With my needle and my thread and my whole goddamn heart, this is how I love you.
