Lemony Snicket, The Tree

I squawked in delight when I spotted the beginnings of tiny white flower buds on Lemony Snicket, my potted Meyer lemon tree!

January 29

Her last two batches of flowers blossomed and died without producing any fruit, even though I diligently hand-pollinated them with an old paintbrush nearly every day. I shouldn’t get my hopes up for this batch but oh no, too late.

I’m also battling a particularly stubborn infestation of scale, which are these dumb little stationary flat bugs that barely move but when they do they leave this sticky clear liquid in their wake.

To combat them, I’m washing each individual leaf, top and bottom, with a rag soaked in insecticide, both to kill the bugs and to remove the dew which can attract mold. She’s not a big tree but Jesus Christ does she have a lot of leaves.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE 😍😍😍😍😍😍

Using an old paintbrush, I’ve gently transferred pollen between this blossom and the one other that opened up, to cross-pollinate and hopefully produce some hilariously tiny lemons again πŸ€žπŸ‹πŸ€žπŸ‹πŸ€žπŸ‹

Here's the Lemony Snicket panels from my 2020 quilt:

February: Lemony Snicket, our potted lemon tree, blossomed and is producing tiny fruits for the first time.

May: I am rich in lemons.

October: I'm so proud of my little lemon party.

I audibly gasped in delight when saw the open blossom! "I am in rich in lemons" yes! my gawd yes! Can I get that on a t-shirt? You've inspired me to try growing a tree. I cannot wait to see your ridiculously tiny lemons! LOL!
