A good film should have a mix of attention grabbing stuff that will keep you on the edge of your seat the first time watching, and nuance, themes, and messaging that can only be realized on rewatches, none of what I described applies to French shit house films. Not even the French like these films. You see the highest grossing French made films in France, they like comedy and all that shit just like us, and while most of the humor from these films will fly over our English speaking heads, go ahead and watch that stuff instead. Welcome to the Sticks, The Intouchables, hell even an Asterix and Obelix film is way better than any of this stuff Don't look at the older comedies tho, Old School French humor is about as funny as Old School British humor, as in not at all

2023-02-03 12:07:51 +0000 UTCBelieve it or not, the Japanese have a term called "Paris syndrome" and It's used to describe the experience of Japanese people going on vacation to Paris and getting horribly disappointed from how much of a shithole the city really is because of years of lies perpetutated by popular media that claim it to be a utopian paradise of Europe. It's an actual medical condition and the most literal form of culture shock possible. If you want to see the most painfully accurate experience of what It's like to go on vacation there, watch National Lampoon's European Vacation. The scene where the Griswolds get insulted by Parisian concierges in French while checking in to a hotel without them knowing is one of my favorites in the whole series.
