I'm glad Asterios is firmly not having any of the bagging on Shinji. Seems like EVA fandom apparently just wants to armchair quarterback the fighting of world-ending monsters. Shinji is the one relatable character of the series from beginning to end because he's confused. Headstrong determination is an alienating trait. Those last two episodes are not really a tonal shift either. I dunno if things were reworked for Netflix but the last arc of the show led into them pretty naturally. And that's all I'll say about that for now.
