Applications, Character Designs and Art Raffle Reminder!

Dear Patrons,

I hope you are all doing well! I’d like to start off with a reminder that you can still sign up for the art raffle to get an original Elva lino-cut. So far only 9 people have signed up for the raffle, and I would like to wait with conducting the draw until at least 15 people are signed up, so please have at it! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc6Co8YZ0BwBhRfcM2k6EMYL93heR9QmHhPRyePjQHUgGJEZw/viewform?usp=send_form

Other than that things have been proceeding smoothly. In the past few days I have done updated character designs for Morpheus and the Bison character in the upcoming episode, and done some color key explorations. From here on out I’d like to do some updated turnarounds for Zale, Elva and Sesam and then slowly ease into production with some scene illustrations and vertical slices. That being said there are still a few minor fix-ups to take care of in the animatic, and I’d like to go over the dialogue one more time with some native English speakers to see if we can make it flow a bit more naturally before handing it off to the voice actors… But production is in sight nonetheless and nothing excites me more!

Things are going a bit slower than they normally would in regards to the pre-production of episode 3, mainly because a lot of my time has also been spent working on the series concept, pitch bible and applications for pitch events. I’ve managed to put together a newer updated pitch bible draft that I believe I can use as a base for a lot of these applications, but I have already received some feedback on it that I would like to implement – some sooner rather than later.

The events I am applying for are pitching forums, fit for somebody like me who is still somewhat green in the industry. They serve as a great testing ground and place to network and learn more. So far I’ve applied for the NiNoKo event in Viborg, and I already made it through to the interviews and should be receiving answers on whether or not my project has been selected for it by the end of next week. Coming up are the deadlines for Animation Sans Frontière and Nordic Talents, so the next couple of weeks those are some applications that I will focus in on. Lastly there’s Cartoon Springboard, but the deadline for that one is first in August, so there’s no need to worry about that for now.

I’ve attached the newest draft of the pitch bible to give you an idea of where the series is going, and my application for NiNoKo for anyone curious. All the visual stuff will otherwise go into the next Art Book PDF.

Thank you very much for your continued support!

Thanks Josh! Those are some very sensible thought, so I think I will definitely take them to heart : ) - Thanks so much for sharing!

Well, when I saw my art as part of your collection of fanworks, I was really happy. I'm glad to have it amongst many other artist's works and that it's going to help contribute to your pitch. Having 100,000 views is one thing, a good collection of fan art shows how passionate ToZ fans are about your show and should further enforce the fact that there IS an audience who absolutely wants to see more! If I were to make a fanart collection image, I think I would write a line or two of credits beneath it in small print, or insert their names on top of each of their work. If you can't contact some of the artists, don't worry about it, leave their work in as part of the image. Those pictures still feature your characters, and the artists made them for you anyway, and if you feel they will help enforce your pitch even more, keep them. That's what I would do, anyway. Just my thoughts.

Really glad it still seems appealing to you, even after a deeper read! - Out of curiosity, how does it make you feel to have your fan art shown in the bible? I still haven't decided whether or not to have that page in the final thing yet. It seems like a nice way to show that the show doesn't just exist in a bubble (and I kind of feel proud of all the art people have sent in and want to show it), but I do feel somewhat uneasy about it, because I don't have everybody's contacts and would be able to ask for individual permissions. It's not like it's a commercial product, but it'd be interesting to hear some more views on that kind of thing before I finally decide. I was thinking of adding a final art credit page at the very least or something....

The pitch bible sounds so good! It definitely sounds like my kind of show. Also thanks for featuring my fanart XD you're very welcome for the support! Good luck with NiNoKo. :)
