This was pretty much always something I wanted to do, even before PS5 came out. It was just a matter of waiting for it to realistically make sense. As in, I'm not about to drop $500 on a working console, just to gut it. I'll give it a few years until there's a lot of consoles (and parts) in circulation. So the final bill on the empty shell? A clean $50. And that means we can put a grill in!
For some background on the whole thing, it took a few weekends. I genuinely didn't expect it to take so long. I remember doing the PS4 Pro one in a few days. But then again, I really cobbled that together. In a strange way, I really wanted to make sure this thing came out better. So using the dremel, making more precise cuts, adding more heat protection, fashioning better hinges, etc.
The end result came out pretty good! And after the first cooking session, there's basically no visible warping. It's still in great shape. So maybe I'll use it again in a few years. But for now? Enjoy all these deleted scenes.
