From Hobby to Venture: The Evolution of SnaccPop Studios

SnaccPop Studios began as a passion project, which initially functioned as a hobby shared by a number of like-minded creative founders rather than any kind of business. This origin story highlights several key characteristics and practices of the studio:

The founders of SnaccPop Studios started the venture primarily out of a love for their craft, not profit. The original works were entirely self-funded by the founders and their own work efforts, and all patronage generated was secondary to the fulfillment they derived from their creative work and the joy they derived from people who would eventually become fans.

Despite generating income, SnaccPop Studios reinvested it all into its projects and contributors. The founders' primary objective was not to profit but to sustain and enhance their passions and creative activities.

SnaccPop Studios has maintained a largely informal structure, working with freelancers and contributors. This approach aligned with our origins and philosophies as a hobby-driven studio that reinvested all its funds back into the creative process. All patronage was used to cover various expenses related to the operation and growth of the studio. Reinvestment included paying freelancers and contributors to illustrate, write audio and game scripts, program, audio engineer, compose music, voice act, voice direct, and localize.

4. Expense Coverage:

The reinvestment approach meant that any money made was allocated to ensuring the studio's ongoing activities and potential expansion. This included investing in our regular freelancers and collaborators to enable them to better work both in and outside the studio.

By continually reinvesting our income, SnaccPop Studios aimed for sustainable growth. This allowed us to expand our capabilities and improve our offerings without the pressure of generating profits for external investors or stakeholders.

This is also why we fully embrace fan content and allow any fans to produce and sell their own merchandise including our characters and concepts, among other things.

In the very, very early days of SnaccPop and its projects, the initial income was manageable, even negligible. Over time, SnaccPop Studios' patronage and support increased as the studio's projects gained popularity. This growth meant that the income was reaching levels where it could no longer be reasonably considered ‘just a hobby’.

These professionals made sure we could continue to create with full confidence and security.

• Focus on Creativity: With professional assistance ensuring all ducks were in their respective rows, the creative team at SnaccPop Studios could focus on our projects without heavy administrative burdens or anxieties, fostering an environment conducive to creativity and innovation.

Presently, with the studio founders’ explicit blessing, SnaccPop Studios is now transitioning to an LLC. This change will formalize the studio as its own legal entity, separate from its founders and its new owner.
