February 2024 into March 2024

Plans going ahead:

Hmm, I'd really like to finish this hard mode thing I'm working on and then get cracking with finally finishing Research tower 4. The hard mode thing is about half done with the programming, which is the part that makes it take forever. This is doable even if it's not what I should probably be doing.

Still once that's done RT4 is just a lot of TF sequences and a good number gameplay edits away from done!

Neither of these are in an absolute sense very difficult, but I always say that and never get as much done as I'd like.

February (Happy leap month!)

Hmm an alright month. I sort of started to fall into a funk in the last third there. Still for a while I was crushing writing goals, and got about 11K of Research Tower 4 written. Which felt good, let me tell you! I got all of Alice's TF sequences which will be attached in an unedited form if you'd like to see them. I also finished the ending conversation if you lose, which had a bunch of conditionals.

What's left to do is what I call Peril mode. I don't like Hardening TF, mostly because the majority of the TF is about a loss of agency and control. The TFs I wrote in Valiant (regular mode) touch on this, but always focusing on the resistance and how the heroines try to ger around it or overcome the challenge. Peril mode plays the TF straight, working to the more common way hardening TFs are written. Game's a flop, so it's not the most important thing, but I'd like to finish the game as envisioned. Partially this is just me being stubborn, partially it’s a writing exercise to stretch myself creatively.

I also started earnest work on the Hard Mode for Witch Hunter Izana. This sucked, mostly because I am bad at programming and very prone to missing a string that needed to be replaced or making a typo which breaks something. Computers! Who needs them? Anyway I got that to about a third done. The stuff I've added is about half of the new stuff that hard mode introduces, and covers about a third of the game. Writing little AI strings and conditionals is actually pretty fun, but I am just pants on my head bad at the rest of what the task requires.

Life situation: Stablish, probably dealing with some depression. Which I don't mind, but since it keeps me from getting stuff done I have to deal with it. How I’ll do that is sort of an open question.

I don't have anything spectacular for Monsters of the Forest’s anniversary going but I do have a little thing planned so check back on the 22nd! I hope everyone has a great month!
